Grant Accountant

Grant AccountantGHJ Search & Staffing is working with a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Los Angeles who is seeking an experienced Grant Accountant to take ownership of the accounting and financial management of a diverse grant portfolio.This is a hands-on role for someone who can go beyond processing transactions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable reading and interpreting grant agreements, determining financial and compliance requirements, building grant tracking processes, monitoring budgets, and partnering directly with program leadership.This position is best suited for a self-sufficient and analytical accountant who can identify discrepancies, solve problems independently, and bring structure to the grant accounting process.Key Responsibilities:Manage the financial lifecycle of approximately 27 grantsReview and interpret grant agreements and funding requirementsDevelop and maintain grant tracking schedules, templates, and reporting toolsMonitor grant expenditures and ensure compliance with funding restrictionsPrepare and review budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysisManage payroll and operating expense allocations across grantsPrepare grant financial reports, reimbursement requests, and supporting documentationReconcile grant activity to the general ledgerSupport month-end close and grant-related journal entriesMonitor restricted funding and ensure appropriate coding of expensesPartner closely with Program Directors to monitor spending and address over/underspendingIdentify discrepancies, investigate issues, and recommend solutionsMaintain documentation and schedules in support of financial and grant auditsQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field requiredStrong nonprofit grant accounting experienceExperience independently managing multiple grantsDemonstrated understanding of the full grant lifecycleExperience with grant budgeting, budget-to-actual reporting, payroll allocations, expense allocations, and restricted fundingAbility to read and interpret grant agreements and translate requirements into accounting and reporting processesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independentlyStrong communication skills and experience partnering with program or non-finance leadershipAdvanced Microsoft Excel skillsExperience with accounting/ERP systems$80,000 - $100,000 a year
