We have an immediate opening for a Substitute School Nurse within Wethersfield Public Schools. To fill this opening, we are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with superior communication skills to fill this critical opening in our school. The chosen candidates will be placed in our substitute pool and will be "on call" for planned and unplanned daily openings at any of our elementary schools, middle school and high school. Work hours will vary depending on the school. Position: Substitute School Nurse School: All schools Reports To: Director of Special Services Start Date: ASAP Compensation: $300 per day worked Application Date: Posting will remain open until filled Our substitute school nurse will: Fill in as a member of the school team as the designated health professional, (e.g. Planning and Placement Team, 504 Team, Crisis Team); Maintain accurate, comprehensive, well-organized records, logs surveys and reports in keeping with requirements of the State of Connecticut, and policies of the Wethersfield Board of Education; Confer with parents, students, teachers, support staff and other professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments. Monitor students with special needs for the purpose of maintaining them in the school setting; Support compliance with Connecticut State mandated physical examinations and immunization requirements; Administer prescribed medications and treatments for students in school and/or school sponsored activities; Provide health care treatment and/or emergency services to injured or ill students and staff; Assist families as necessary in obtaining a medical home, HUSKY state health insurance, needed immunizations, dental care or other health related needs; Attend staff meetings as scheduled and perform other nursing duties or professional tasks as required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following key characteristics on the job: Ability to diagnose and provide appropriate health care services; Enthusiasm for helping children; Respectful attitude in working with students, families and staff; Ability to work cooperatively with others and maintain confidentiality; Candidates must hold the following credentials: Valid RN license from the CT State Department of Health; Minimum of BS degree in Nursing; Two or more years of nursing experience (prefer at least one year dealing with children); Wethersfield Public School System/Nondiscrimination Policy The Wethersfield Public Schools is committed to a policy of equal opportunity/affirmative action for all qualified persons.
