Software Development Manager, Amazon Builder Experience

Managed Software Deployments, part of the Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) organization, helps builders ship software faster without trading safety for speed. We own software deployments for Amazon builders, at a scale that few organizations see. We are focused on speed and making it safe to roll out code changes. The speed of deployment of software is scaling at a pace never seen before.We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the Managed Software Deployments team. You will own control plane for the deployment mechanism that builders across Amazon rely on. You will be focused on increasing deployment speed, as well as increasing safety guardrails to ensure code changes are safe. This role sits at the intersection of agentic systems, developer experience, and operations at scale, operating within a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.A successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in building operator-facing or developer-facing products, a passion for customer experience, the ability to hire and grow a high-performing team, and the drive to deliver novel solutions that have broad impact across Amazon's entire builder ecosystem.Key job responsibilitiesKey job responsibilities- Build, lead, and grow a diverse team of engineers.- Own the control plane for code deployment- Obsess over the builder experience for internal builders — solicit needs, synthesize feedback, and turn it into the roadmap.- Deliver highly available, scalable systems that hold up when teams depend on them most.- Drive adoption of agent-first execution, increasing volume, velocity, and safety at the same time.- Balance reactive response and proactive prevention across the roadmap.- Set team growth expectations and org strategy.- Communicate fluidly across teams to surface product risks and how they will be addressed.- Apply critical thinking in complex, ambiguous, time-pressured situations.- Drive leadership reviews to align roadmap and delivery across business domains.A day in the lifeYou lead the team building deployment capabilities already in daily use by tens of thousands of Amazon engineers, and you are always raising the bar on speed and safety. On a given day you might be: working with a PE on tech strategy; reviewing architecture and tech designs with your engineers; meeting with another Amazon teams as your customer; presenting your roadmap to ASBX leadership and defending the sequencing choices.Your customers are every builder at Amazon. Your immediate partners are your peers supporting the teams who own the deployment platforms, deployment infrastructure, and AI coding tools that your work builds on and feeds into. The right product decisions in this space compound across the entire company.About the teamThis role sits on Managed Software Deployments, a team within the Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) organization. We help builders ship faster without trading safety for speed. Our team owns the deployment tools for updating code on Production, and we keep our customers safe from bad software changes. Success looks like builders spending their time architecting resilience rather than firefighting failures. AI agents already operate in production across Amazon's builder ecosystem, reviewing code, resolving operational issues, and supporting oncall teams at scale. You would join at an inflection point. Agents deliver measurable results today, and the next phase will see an exponential increase of the amount of software changes reaching production. You would help build the systems that let agents deploy safely, understand the context they operate in, and coordinate their work so that every Amazon builder can rely on them daily.Basic qualifications- 3+ years of engineering team management experience- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations- Experience partnering with product or program management teamsPreferred qualification - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineersAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
