As a faith based Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we serve approximately 60,000 patients each year across our Memphis health centers, offering primary care, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and specialty services to the communities that need them most.

We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Certified Medical Assistant to help our Providers deliver excellent patient care - providing basic triage and keeping patients moving smoothly from check-in to doctor. In this role, working under the supervision of a Provider or nurse, you're the steady presence behind the scenes and at the bedside: prepping charts and rooms, taking vitals, assisting with procedures, and making sure every patient's visit runs safely and on time.

What You'll Do

• Review and prepare the medical record to ensure completeness prior to the patient exam, obtaining any reports or results not yet in the chart; document the clinic visit, observations, and related activities, and file charts.
• Assist with gathering data for patient history and physical assessment and support nurses and physicians with physical exams and simple in-house surgical and therapeutic procedures.
• Check patient vital signs and take body measurements, documenting results in the patient chart.
• Prepare and maintain exam and treatment rooms, cleaning after patient discharges to ensure a clean, sanitized environment; maintain supply inventory and ensure patient care equipment is clean and functioning, reporting any defects to your supervisor.
• Collect specimens and prepare them for outside lab, coordinating with the lab for STAT pickups or testing; perform simple STAT lab tests and urinalysis, and prepare lab results for the physician to sign.
• Administer breathing treatments and injections as ordered by the Provider, perform EKGs, and test pregnant patients on the NST machine per Provider orders.
• Answer phone calls and relay patient requests and questions to the appropriate individuals; explain Provider instructions to patients as appropriate and provide teaching to patients and families within your scope of knowledge.
• Assist with scheduling and referring patients for specific treatments.
• Respond to medical emergencies and administer first aid as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You'll Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent, and graduation from an approved Medical Assistant Program.
• Experience in ambulatory care preferred; bilingual preferred.
• Valid Certified Medical Assistant certificate and BCLS certification (required).
• A high level of concentration and attention to detail - this role requires close, intermittent focus, as the number of steps and variables involved creates the possibility of errors without careful attention.
• Comfort using clinical equipment including EKG, NST, audiometer, pulse oximetry, nebulizer, and point-of-care devices, along with everyday computer, photocopier, and telephone use.
• Physical readiness for a hands-on clinical role: this position is approximately 85% walking, 10% standing, and 5% sitting, with about 15% of time spent lifting, pulling, or pushing patients, supplies, and equipment (up to 65 lbs., with or without assistance).
• Comfort with frequent exposure to infectious agents and the physical risks that come with lifting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment.
