Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active Illinois license or confirmation of application process Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have Skills: - Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes is preferred. - EPIC experience is highly favored. - Experience in a Level I trauma center will be considered if the candidate has EPIC experience. Description: The adult medical specialty unit has 56 private and semi-private beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 from 07:00 to 23:00 and 1:5-6 from 23:00 to 07:30. Common diagnoses and types of patients include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health conditions. RNs are not required to titrate drips, but common titratable or set-rate drips include Heparin and Lasix. There is a free charge nurse on each floor, and RNs do not take assignments alongside charge duties. Patient Care Technicians assist with vital signs, accucheks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living, with a ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory therapy equipment includes BiPAP and CPAP for sleep apnea, inhalers, and suctioning. Telemetry is monitored remotely, with RNs able to view strips on a pack or computer using Phillips monitors. Scheduling consists of three 12-hour shifts from 07:00 to 19:30. Weekend requirements are every other weekend for days and alternating Fridays and Saturdays for nights. Holiday requirements vary, and there is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other acute care general medical areas may be necessary, including nephrology, neurology, orthopedics, and oncology. Professional scrubs of any color are acceptable, and visible tattoos and piercings (except for ears) must be covered. Unit-specific orientation consists of two to three shifts.
