Qualified Probation Officer - Hertfordshire - East of England

Job Summary Post holders will undertake the full range of offender management tasks with people on probation under supervision, including assessment, sentence implementation and producing reports. The role relies on service procedures and practice directions to underpin professional judgement and safeguard the safety of victims and the public. Responsibilities and Duties Provide professional advice and assessment, including written reports to courts, the Parole Board and other criminal‑justice agencies. Manage offender assessment at all risk levels of serious harm, including high and very high risk. Use computer‑based systems to produce, update and maintain records within agreed timelines. Ensure timely referrals and effective relationships with offender‑management, court teams, victim contact units, interventions, Approved Premises, prisons and external agencies to improve outcomes and reduce re‑offending. Represent the Probation Service at professional meetings and partnership forums such as MAPPA and MARAC. Work collaboratively with colleagues, provide guidance and support to probation‑service staff, and cover within the team and to other teams as required. Conduct alternate‑location visits, deliver and co‑lead accredited programmes, and carry out mandatory alcohol and drug tests. Carry out safeguarding children duties, model pro‑social behaviour, and work within the aims and values of the Probation Service and HMPPS. Qualifications & Technical Requirements Probation Officer qualification or be a qualified Probation Officer. PQF Honours Degree, Graduate Diploma or Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice. Diploma in Probation Studies, Social Work (Probation option) or CQSW (Probation option). Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, Probation Service, relevant legislation, National Standards and risk/needs assessment tools. Working knowledge of evidence‑based practice. Working Arrangements The role offers flexible working options including hybrid working from the base location, MoJ sites or home, provided the work can be performed within the UK. Detailed arrangements will be agreed with the successful candidate and subject to regular review. Standard full‑time working hours are 37 hours per week, excluding unpaid breaks. Part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing arrangements are considered where they meet the demands of the role.
