Job Description

This role focuses on installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex commercial HVAC systems within a university campus environment. The HVAC Technician works independently to ensure reliable operation of cooling towers, water source heat pumps, chillers, VRF systems, and associated electrical and mechanical components, supporting a comfortable and safe environment for building occupants.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems, including cooling towers, water source heat pumps, chillers, and VRF systems.

• Diagnose and resolve complex issues in HVAC controls, electrical systems, refrigeration cycles, and mechanical equipment with minimal supervision.

• Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned HVAC equipment to maximize reliability and extend equipment life.

• Inspect and test HVAC components and systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with performance standards.

• Monitor system performance, identify inefficiencies or irregularities, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.

• Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications to support accurate troubleshooting and repairs.

• Coordinate and prioritize daily tasks to support campus operations during the standard Monday through Friday work schedule.

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, and system performance for future reference.

• Follow safety procedures and best practices while working with electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems in an active campus setting.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 8 years of commercial HVAC experience.

• Hands-on experience working with cooling towers in a commercial environment.

• Experience with water source heat pumps, including operation, maintenance, and repair.

• Experience with chillers in commercial applications.

• Familiarity with VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems, including troubleshooting and service.

• Strong knowledge of HVAC controls and control strategies for commercial systems.

• Strong understanding of electrical systems related to HVAC equipment.

• Solid knowledge of refrigeration cycles and related components.

• Proficiency with mechanical systems and components used in commercial HVAC.

• Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and repair complex commercial HVAC systems.

• Experience performing preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.

Work Environment

This position is based on a university campus in Thousand Oaks and involves working in academic, administrative, and support buildings with diverse HVAC systems. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing regular daytime hours. You will work with commercial HVAC technologies, including cooling towers, water source heat pumps, chillers, VRF systems, and associated electrical and mechanical equipment. The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and plant areas, and may require navigating large campus facilities and working in varying temperatures and conditions while adhering to standard safety practices and appropriate work attire.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Thousand Oaks, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
