About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of surgical unit experience preferred. License: Current nursing license required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias. - Use of Rapid Response Teams. - Blood product administration. - Central and peripheral line care/management. - Management of surgical drains. - Non-invasive airway management. - Wound care and management. Description: This position involves caring for a wide range of patients who have had or plan to have surgery or have experienced trauma. Common diagnoses include cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, stabbings, falls, various cancers, kidney stones, bowel obstruction, peripheral vascular disease, limb ischemia, hernias, and gangrene. The position also requires involvement in special procedures such as cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hernia repairs, ostomy creation or closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, kidney stone removal, amputations, and femoro-popliteal bypass. Experience with special equipment such as wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes, JP drains, hemovac drains, and Penrose drains is required. Nurses should have experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips and be familiar with teamwork approaches and behavioral expectations in interactions with patients and staff. Staff are expected to adhere to call-off policies strictly enforced. The nurse-patient ratio is 1:6 for surgical/medicine inpatient patients. Weekend and holiday work is required, with expectations to participate in emergency response teams as needed. Nurses must be willing to float to other units when required. Candidates must comply with all health and safety protocols, including infection control measures.
