GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Under the direction of the Equipment Engineering Manager, the Mechanical/Software Integration Engineer I performs mechanical and software integration engineering assignments of a wide complexity, under general direction, and with considerable discretion as to work methods. In addition, the position is responsible for management of projects of varying size, complexity and duration, while providing oversight for other team members performing CAD drafting, ERP entry, and other support functions.  This position may be expected to assume full engineering responsibility for one or more equipment product lines after initial orientation and training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Designs, modifies designs, and evaluates complex mechanical and electromechanical devices or systems.

·         Manages all phases of design projects of varying size and complexity.

·         Performs developmental and/or test work which requires a knowledge of mechanical/electrical engineering theory and design.

·         Compiles and evaluates design and test data and prepares technical specifications.

·         Analyzes, develops, and recommends design approaches necessary to meet production requirements for new or improved products and/or processes.

·         Integrates software driven electrical components into fully functional software systems using such systems as VB.net, LabVIEW, Trio Motion Perfect, and others as systems are developed.

·         Develops software-hardware systems interface.

·         Ensures software and hardware are integrated and functioning per product requirements.

·         Modifies current software to correct errors, adapt it to new hardware, improve overall performance, or to upgrade interfaces.

·         Ability to troubleshoot machine power distribution, I/O devices, motion controls, vision systems, and related electrical components.

·         Provides custom software support for specific customer applications.

·         Creates documented software validation testing procedures.

·         Analyzes and corrects issues during the testing of the software.

·         Compiles and evaluates design and test data and prepares technical specifications.

·         Analyzes, develops, and recommends mechanical/software design approaches necessary to meet production requirements for new or improved products and/or processes.

·         Prepares status reports for projects under development.

·         Develops and/or applies revisions to drawings and specifications prepared by technical support personnel.

·         Coordinates with technical support personnel to conduct prototype runs for products or processes.

·         Develops and/or applies revisions to Bills of Materials.

·         Shall provide support for systems related to Engineering Change Requests and documentation library.

·         Occasionally travels (5-10%) to visit customers, vendors, trade shows, and other locations as needed.

·         Coordinates with technical writing personnel in the creation of customer documentation.

·         Adheres to plant and corporate safety policies.

·         May assist in other areas or perform other duties as required by fluctuating business needs.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 3+ years’ successful work experience with integrating software solutions. 

BASIC SKILLS:

·         Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

·         Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 

·         Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 

·         Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 

·         Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

·         Ability to work with Boolean logic and conditional reasoning. 

·         Knowledge of numerical precision and tolerancing.

·         Experience in cross-domain root-cause diagnosis: ability to determine if a fault is caused by hardware, electronics, or software. 

·         Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

·         Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

·         Ability to follow and safely modify existing codebases with varying levels of documentation.

·         .NET / Object-Oriented Programming (VB.Net, C#, or similar) .

·         Ability to manage version control.

·         Experience interfacing Windows software with electronic components.

·         Knowledgeable in mechanical drafting documentation principles.

·         Knowledgeable using measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges.

·         Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints and technical manuals.

·         Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems

·         Possesses well-developed communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. 

·         Ability to read, write and follow written or verbal instructions. 

·         Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.   

·         Ability to interact closely with other departments to support customer focus and efficient operations. 

·         Demonstrated analytical and technical ability within field of expertise.

·         Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency, determination of test reliability, etc.  

·         Ability to interact professionally with customers.

·         Demonstrated capacity to work with Microsoft Office Products, ERP Systems, and other critical computer applications.
