About The Role First Bank of Montana is hiring an Ag/Commercial Lender to be an integral part of our team in our Chinook, Montana location. This role involves making commercial and agricultural loans and requires a positive attitude, great customer service skills, and the ability to work in a team atmosphere. Professionalism, confidentiality, good attendance, punctuality, flexibility and adaptability are a must. Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate will have extensive contact with customers, vendors, the general public, and bank staff and will conduct themselves in a manner that enhances the overall efficiency and image of the bank. They must build and maintain a loan portfolio, act as a liaison between the bank and its customers, and participate in community and bank-sponsored activities. Familiarity with agricultural production is a must. Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including the Dodd-Frank Act, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must complete the assigned online training courses and achieve a score of 85% or greater by the due date. Responsible for maintaining loan quality in compliance with bank policy and procedures, underwriting standards, and documentation requirements. Loan Officer Essential Functions Maintain working knowledge of all bank products and services. Grow in-house loan portfolio. Identify and develop profitable relationships with potential new customers, maintaining an aggressive call schedule. Cross-sell bank products and refer customers, when appropriate, to other departments or affiliate banks. Assist in identifying and implementing new products and services. Participate in market analysis of competitors’ rates and make recommendations based on findings. Develop and maintain profitable relationships with new and existing customers. Obtain loan applications, counsel applicants, analyze financial data, determine pricing and loan structure, and make appropriate loan decisions according to bank policies and procedures. Maintain high service standards for all customers, working closely with First Bank of Montana managers and staff. Review all credit reports, financial statements, tax returns, title insurance commitments, and appraisals to ensure documentation is complete and correct. Monitor and act appropriately on past-due loans to ensure compliance with bank policies, procedures, and goals. Maintain current awareness of legal and regulatory developments and guidelines, and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to compliance for the bank. Other Job Functions Perform job functions in compliance with all company policies, procedures, federal and state rules and regulations applicable to the position. Keep management appropriately informed of area activities and significant problems. Participate in community service and bank-sponsored activities that serve and support the mission and values of First Bank of Montana. Provide superior internal and external customer service, demonstrating self-governance, courtesy, and respect toward all customers. Represent First Bank of Montana professionally, with a positive “can-do” attitude, punctuality, flexibility, and adaptability; keep work area tidy and maintain customer privacy. Attend and participate in required meetings. Maintain regular and predictable attendance for in-person contact with customers. Additional duties as requested or assigned. About You Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related field preferred. One year lending experience and/or training. One year sales and customer service experience preferred. One year banking experience preferred. Knowledge, Skill, Ability Ability to work quickly and accurately. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. General understanding of the field of agriculture. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn new systems. Credit analysis ability. Work Environment Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
