LITIGATION ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY – FEDERAL MARITIME AND ADMIRALTY
Foreman Friedman is seeking a litigation associate attorney to join its Miami office and work primarily on federal maritime and admiralty matters.
The attorney will handle active litigation involving cruise lines, vessel owners and operators, transportation companies, insurers, and other maritime interests. The position requires strong federal litigation skills, disciplined file management, clear written analysis, and the ability to take ownership of matters from initial investigation through resolution.
This is a full-time, in-office position in downtown Miami.
Responsibilities
• Manage federal maritime and admiralty litigation matters under partner supervision.
• Draft complaints, answers, affirmative defenses, motions, discovery requests and responses, memoranda, dispositive motions, pretrial filings, and other litigation documents.
• Conduct legal research involving maritime law, admiralty jurisdiction, federal procedure, personal jurisdiction, forum issues, contractual limitations, liability, damages, and related defenses.
• Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, corporate representatives, medical providers, experts, and other witnesses.
• Prepare for and attend hearings, mediations, inspections, site visits, and other case-related proceedings.
• Analyze liability, causation, damages, jurisdictional issues, contractual defenses, and litigation strategy.
• Work directly with clients, insurers, witnesses, experts, opposing counsel, and co-defendants.
• Prepare cases for trial, mediation, arbitration, and settlement.
• Maintain accurate case files, calendars, deadlines, billing entries, and client reporting.
• Provide timely case evaluations, budgets, status reports, and recommendations to supervising attorneys and clients.
• Handle matters efficiently while maintaining the firm’s standards for legal analysis, written work, responsiveness, and client service.
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with The Florida Bar.
• Admission to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida preferred.
• Federal litigation experience required.
• Maritime or admiralty litigation experience strongly preferred.
• Experience representing cruise lines, vessel interests, transportation companies, insurers, or other defendants is preferred.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
• Experience drafting and arguing substantive motions in federal court.
• Ability to manage multiple active matters and competing deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail, professional judgment, and organizational discipline.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with partners, associates, paralegals, and support staff.
• Professional and responsive communication with clients and colleagues.
