Position Overview

The Special Equipment Manager is responsible for leading and supporting maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability initiatives involving specialized industrial equipment and critical production systems across multiple manufacturing facilities.

This role serves as a technical leader focused on maximizing equipment reliability, reducing downtime, improving maintenance execution, and driving operational excellence in a heavy manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on technical expertise, leadership experience, and a deep understanding of industrial maintenance and reliability systems.

This role requires regular interaction with plant leadership, engineering, operations, and maintenance teams and includes travel to multiple manufacturing locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support maintenance teams across multiple manufacturing plants
• Evaluate and resolve complex technical issues related to critical industrial equipment and production systems
• Develop and standardize:
• Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures
• Predictive Maintenance (PDM) programs
• Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) strategies
• Identify and mitigate Single Point of Failure (SPOF) risks across critical equipment and systems
• Drive initiatives focused on:
• Equipment uptime improvement
• MTBF improvement
• MTTR reduction
• Downtime reduction and reliability optimization
• Ensure proper Root Cause Analysis (RCA) execution and implementation of corrective actions
• Oversee:
• Maintenance planning activities
• Shutdown and outage coordination
• Spare parts strategy and critical inventory management
• Support CAPEX projects including:
• Equipment installation
• FAT/SAT execution
• Startup and commissioning activities
• Establish maintenance KPIs and ensure continuous performance tracking and reporting
• Mentor, coach, and develop:
• Maintenance engineers
• Maintenance planners
• Supervisors and technicians
• Coordinate closely with:
• Production
• Engineering
• Quality
• Corporate leadership teams
• Ensure compliance with:
• OSHA and NFPA safety standards
• LOTO procedures
• Corporate maintenance and operational standards
• Drive continuous improvement and maintenance standardization initiatives across facilities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in:
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Mechatronics Engineering
• Or related technical field
• Minimum 15 years of industrial maintenance experience
• Minimum 5 years managing maintenance departments or multi-site maintenance teams
• Strong experience in:
• Manufacturing
• Heavy industrial environments
• Continuous-process operations
• Strong troubleshooting and reliability engineering capabilities involving industrial equipment and systems
• Proven ability to lead reliability improvement and maintenance optimization initiatives

• CMMS implementation, administration, and optimization:

• Or equivalent systems
• Preventive, Predictive, and Reliability-Centered Maintenance methodologies
• Condition monitoring technologies including:
• Vibration analysis

• Ultrasonic inspection

• PLCs and instrumentation
• Hydraulics and pneumatics
• Vacuum systems
• Industrial heating systems
• Spare parts strategy and inventory optimization

• Reliability metrics and maintenance analytics:
• MTBF

• Downtime analysis
• Maintenance budgeting and cost control
• Contractor and vendor management experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in:
• Transformer manufacturing
• Heavy industrial manufacturing
• Continuous-process manufacturing environments
• Multi-site maintenance leadership experience
• Experience standardizing maintenance and reliability programs across facilities
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
