Disc Cell Operator/CNC Lathe Operator

Overview & Responsibilities Set up and operate manual and CNC lathes, vertical keyseaters, and 5‑axis milling machines to perform turning, boring, facing, milling, grooving, slotting, keyway machining, and final milling of component parts for turbines, compressors, and other Elliott manufactured parts. Primarily responsible for impeller machining. Tools and equipment include vertical boring mills, vertical keyseaters, CNC 5‑axis mills, measuring devices (micrometers, dial indicators, depth gauges, blocks, clamps, shims), hand tools, lubricants, hoists, overhead crane, forklift, pedal tool grinders, deburring and polishing tools, and related material handling equipment. Responsibilities Receive detailed instructions and drawings, verify raw material, drawings, and tooling against work orders. Obtain necessary drawings, tools, and materials. Rebuild, adjust, change, grind, and modify tools as required; maintain department tool inventory. Set up machines: install and adjust tools, position and align fixtures and clamps, set feeds and speeds. Perform turning, boring, facing, milling, keyway machining, polishing, and related operations. Use measuring devices to ensure accuracy; deburr and polish parts to final finish. Clean machines, tools, and workplace; check gauges, coolant, and filters. Report defective material, equipment, and tools to management. Report production counts, time, and identifying data. Establish and record set‑up points; insert CNC programs via DNC; create and edit MDI programs. Record data and changes on manuscript and set‑up sheets; update CNC programs to file server or network. Maintain programmed machining data on available storage devices. Adjust machining cycles as needed to produce parts from drawings. Review daily workload schedule and interpret drawings and engineering instructions. Complete all required set‑up and machining operations for VBM’s (vertical machine builders). Verify parts and tools using measuring instruments and machine probe systems; complete data sheets. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Ability and willingness to work 1st (7am–3pm), 2nd (3pm–11pm), and 3rd (11pm–7am) shifts. Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred; divisional testing required.
