Workers' Compensation Specialist

Job Overview The County of San Diego's Department of Human Resources has a current opening for a Workers' Compensation Specialist to work for a large self-insured, self-administered agency handling medical-only and future medical workers' compensation claims. A teleworking or flexible schedule may be available after an initial training period. Responsibilities Contact employees, supervisors, and medical office staff regarding injury and other claim information. Establish and maintain claim files, diary system, and indexes in a claims management system. Review medical reports and authorize medically necessary treatment. Monitor and authorize payments. Initiate appropriate notices. Verify job-related accidents. Investigate suspicious claims and perform related work as required. Qualifications Three (3) years of full-time experience adjusting California workers' compensation medical-only claims, or Four (4) years of full-time experience in an insurance, medical, or legal environment providing support services to workers' compensation adjusters, including setting up files, obtaining information, and maintaining confidential records, or Possession of a certificate in Workers' Compensation from an institution recognized by the California Department of Insurance or the Insurance Education Association. Must complete required training hours. Training hours not completed within 12 months after initial appointment will result in probation failure. Must complete 20 hours of post‑designation training every two years per Section 2592.02(b) of the California Code of Regulations.
