HVAC Service Technician

The HVAC Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs a wide range of HVAC systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This role performs routine maintenance on heating systems, troubleshoots and repairs units with both electronic and mechanical components, and tests systems to verify proper functionality. The technician inspects and replaces filters, adheres to all safety standards and protocols, and contributes to high-quality service in both existing buildings and new construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair residential and commercial HVAC systems, including heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance on heating systems to optimize performance, extend equipment life, and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
• Troubleshoot HVAC units by diagnosing issues in both electronic and mechanical components and implementing effective repair solutions.
• Inspect, clean, and replace filters and other consumable components to maintain system efficiency and indoor air quality.
• Test HVAC systems for proper functioning, including checking temperature differentials, airflow, electrical connections, and control settings.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, protocols, and best practices while working on HVAC equipment and using tools.
• Complete HVAC work in new construction builds, including installation, setup, and commissioning of new systems.
• Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively for installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
• Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to guide installation and troubleshooting activities.
• Drive a service van to customer locations for service calls, maintaining a professional and safe presence on the road.
• Assess HVAC system design and installation conditions on-site and recommend improvements or repairs as needed.
• Work with air conditioning, refrigeration, and boiler systems, performing diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs as required.
• Document work performed, including parts used, test results, and recommendations, in a clear and accurate manner.
• Communicate with customers in a professional manner, explaining findings, recommended repairs, and proper system operation.

Essential Skills

• Strong background in HVAC systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Proficiency in HVAC repairs, with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues in electronic and mechanical components.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Experience with troubleshooting and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• Understanding of HVAC system design and installation principles.
• Familiarity with boiler systems and their operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance for HVAC equipment.
• Proficient in new construction HVAC builds, including installation and commissioning.
• Power tool experience and ability to use tools safely and effectively.
• Experience driving a van for service calls and working in a field-based service environment.
• Knowledge of and adherence to safety standards and protocols related to HVAC work.

Work Environment

The work environment is field-based, with technicians traveling in a service van to customer locations for installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems. The role requires regular use of power tools and hand tools, as well as frequent reading of schematics and technical documentation. Typical hours follow a four-day, ten-hour schedule, with flexibility on Fridays, and work is performed in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and indoor spaces where HVAC equipment is located. Attire is practical and safety-focused, suitable for hands-on technical work and adherence to safety protocols.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orchard Park, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $38.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
