External Investing Group (XIG)

XIG provides clients with investment and advisory solutions, across leading hedge fund managers, private credit funds, private equity funds, real estate managers, public equity strategies, fixed income strategies and ESG (impact) strategies across all asset classes. XIG manages globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios and a range of advisory services. Our investors access opportunities through new fund commitments, fund-of-fund investments, strategic partnerships, co-investments, secondary-market investments and seed-capital investments. With over 400 professionals across 13 offices around the world, XIG provides manager diligence, portfolio construction, risk management and liquidity solutions to investors, drawing on Goldman Sachs' market insights and risk management expertise. We extend these global capabilities to the world's leading sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, governments, financial institutions, endowments, foundations, high-net-worth individuals and family offices, for which we invest or advise on over $400 billion of alternative investments, public equity strategies and fixed income strategies. The XIG Platform Management team broadly is responsible for portfolio implementation and trading, liquidity management, portfolio construction and monitoring, external manager on-boarding, product development and launch, overseeing the business control framework as well as a number of strategic growth initiatives. The team works in concert with the investment and client teams within XIG, and with functional teams across the AWM division including Central Trading, Fund Accounting, Operations, Technology, Legal, and Compliance. Within Platform Management, specific teams focus on discrete investment platform and portfolio activities. The Hedge Fund Investment and Structuring role will focus primarily on business elements across i) fund formation and structuring and ii) client and investment contract negotiations requiring close collaboration with Legal, Tax and other business partner teams. In addition, this individual will play an active role in a range of platform commercial initiatives, perform analysis of manager offering materials and ancillary documents during investment diligence and create further efficiencies for implementing investments and launching funds.

Responsibilities

• Be a lead for the team across XIG fund formation to include design and structuring, offering and ancillary document review, and deal-related contract negotiations
• Engagement in client mandate launches to include IMA negotiations, commercial term sheets, and third-party service level agreements
• For hedge fund investments, involvement in the manager onboarding process to include ownership of business negotiations in the side letter or similar contract
• Responsible for various investment platform matters to include XIG fund term amendments, restructuring activities, and other XIG fund events that require business analysis and decision-making
• Responsible for due diligence analysis related to hedge fund offering and ancillary documents as part of holistic investment and operational due diligence
• Active role in the integration of AI into our fund launch and investment implementation processes
• Influential voice in product development and business innovation
• Be active in hedge fund industry re: how market participants are approaching investment structuring, new product innovation etc
• Active engagement in coaching and development of junior team members

Basic Qualifications

• J.D. or equivalent law degree with 5+ years of asset management experience; preferably in hedge fund or alternative asset industry. Prior experience with fund formation, client contracts (e.g., IMAs) and investment contracts (e.g., side letters) required
• While not required, prior experience and understanding of hedge fund operating mechanics albeit from legal oriented lens is ideal.
• Strong communication, analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Enthusiastic, self-starter with demonstrated orientation toward managing sensitive and business critical initiatives and negotiations
• Demonstrated capacity to influence outcomes across multiple stakeholders
• Proven ability to thrive in a team environment which extends beyond XIG to include all business partner teams
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced collaborative environment
• Must be detail-oriented

Salary Range The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $125000-$290000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
