Activities AssistantFounded in 1966, Friendship offers diverse senior living accommodations, award-winning care, new and innovative services, as well as specialized rehab and therapy, to over 1,500 residents and patients each day. With four campuses, the earliest dating back to 1919, Friendship has grown to offer the full continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, home care, outpatient therapy, inpatient rehab, long-term care and Alzheimer's and memory care. As a non-profit, Friendship provides a caring community to serve a wide-range of residents including those with limited financial means.Friendship is looking for an Activities Assistant to join our Friendship Health and Rehab South team, located in Roanoke, VA. The Activities Assistant is responsible for the overall promotion, organization, and leadership of recreation programs.Shifts Available:Part-Time: 25 hours each week, afternoons, 5 hours each day. Holidays as needed.Roles & Responsibilities:Leads or assists with group activities under the supervision of the DirectorProvides and plans activities for each individual to include music, sensory stimulation, touch and tactile therapy, reminiscent and cognitive therapy, spiritual activities, arts, crafts, games, exercises, horticulture, pet therapy, and field tripsProvides activities for residents' interest (past and present), physical, mental, and psychosocial needsLeads one-on-one activity sessions with residents who are unable to attend groups due to physical/mental capabilities or who refuse activitiesMatches innovative recreation with individual needs and motivates participation in activitiesMaintains good attendance and arrives/departs work at the scheduled timePosition requires working one weekend a month as the schedule allows and an occasional evening/holidays. Normal hours will be 8:30 am to 5 pmSupervises volunteers as needed or as deemed necessary by the Activities DirectorArranges and sets up designated rooms and areas for scheduled activitiesReceives, stores, issues and cleans specified equipment for scheduled activities, keeping within guidelines with infection control policiesWorks well with volunteers, family, co-workers, and outside communityAttends in-services required by Activities Director and Friendship Retirement AdministrationQualifications:High School Diploma or GED requiredExperience in a long-term care/rehabilitation facility preferredThis position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day.
