Job Title Biology - Life Sciences Faculty — Scottsdale Community College Job Summary Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time Biology - Life Sciences Faculty member to teach lecture and laboratory sections for BIO 201 and BIO 202 (Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II). Instruction, supervision, and evaluation should align with SCC's institutional learning outcomes to prepare a diverse student body for careers in nursing and allied health. Utilize multiple methods and modalities of instruction, assessment, and appropriate technologies to engage students, promote success, and enhance course completion while maintaining a rigorous curriculum. Implement innovative teaching strategies while staying current with best practices in the field. This position requires a physical presence on campus, with possible partial remote work depending on business needs. The start date is August 2026. Essential Functions Instructs students in Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II in classroom, online, and lab settings; emphasizes developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills; uses diverse teaching methods to address students’ varying abilities and backgrounds. Designs and develops syllabi/course outlines, curricula, and instructional materials for lab and lecture; evaluates students through assignments, projects, quizzes, and exams. Maintains and reports information per college policies; supervises students and resolves classroom problems. Utilizes Canvas and other teaching platforms for course administration across in-person, hybrid, and online modalities. Provides guidance and instruction to students in co-curricular settings as needed. Maintains office hours to assist students; participates in department, campus, and district committees; supports academic services through advising and answering student questions. Participates in department and college activities, governance, and unit planning; collaborates with faculty, lab staff, tutors, and student support services. Engages in ongoing professional development to stay current with trends in anatomy, biology, and teaching and learning. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field or in biology-related disciplines as specified by the college’s guidelines. Eligibility to teach Biology (BC/DE) according to the relevant Instructional Council and Faculty Service Area requirements. Discipline-specific credentials or experience as required by the Biology Instructional Council; transcript evaluations may be required by the hiring committee. Desired Qualifications PhD or MS in biological sciences or equivalent, with relevant upper-division coursework in anatomy and physiology. Demonstrated teaching experience at the community college level using multiple delivery formats (in-person, online, live online, hybrid, accelerated). Experience teaching BIO 201 and BIO 202 or equivalent courses; comfort with cadavers, dissection specimens, and human remains as appropriate. Experience developing college-level course curricula and assessments following best practices in anatomy and physiology. Commitment to professional growth and service to the department and college; experience using technology or Open Educational Resources (OER) to engage students. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years. Special Working Conditions Travel to campus for interviews; candidate bears travel expenses. May work evenings and weekends; may require prolonged sitting and computer use. May lift or carry up to 25 lbs; physical presence on campus with possible partial remote work. Work with biology laboratory chemicals, dissection specimens, and cadavers; potential exposure to hazardous chemicals. Climb stairs or ladders; work at heights; outdoor work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions. Work in environments with varying noise levels; position starts in August 2026.
