Staff Manager Position

The Staff Manager leads the staffing, supervision, training, scheduling, and performance systems that support safe, consistent operations at Men's Detox. In partnership with the Program Director, this position applies program priorities, policies, and licensing requirements to clear expectations and coordinated practice for Staff Coordinators, Lead Recovery Assistants, and Recovery Assistants.
Essential Duties
- Lead recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding oversight, and workforce planning for Recovery Assistants and assigned frontline leadership positions; maintain adequate staffing, including required PRN coverage.
- Develop and maintain staff schedules, respond to coverage needs, monitor attendance and overtime, and complete payroll and pay-related functions accurately and on time.
- Supervise, coach, evaluate, and develop Staff Coordinators, Lead Recovery Assistants, and assigned Recovery Assistants through regular (at minimum weekly for Coordinators and Leads and monthly for Recovery Assistants) documented supervision and clear performance expectations.
- Address performance and conduct concerns promptly and, in coordination with the Program Director and Human Resources, complete corrective action and performance improvement processes.
- Develop and maintain a coordinated training system for Recovery Assistants and Staff Coordinators, including onboarding, competencies, certifications, ongoing training, and retraining based on identified needs.
- Partner with the Program Director to develop, review, and revise policies and procedures and ensure approved changes are reflected in training, communication, workflow, and monitoring.
- Oversee consistent completion of frontline operations, including admissions, discharges, client monitoring, rounds, medication processes, documentation, searches, cleaning, safety checks, and other shift responsibilities.
- Ensure daily operations and staff practice comply with agency policy and applicable licensing, contract, confidentiality, health, safety, and documentation requirements. Participate in licensing reviews, audits, incident follow-up, and crisis response.
- Review incidents, quality findings, documentation patterns, and staff performance trends; determine whether training, coaching, process improvement, or corrective action is needed and ensure follow-through.
- Maintain clear, timely communication with the Program Director and frontline leaders regarding staffing, performance, training, client safety, compliance risks, and operational priorities. Promote trauma-informed, professionally boundaries services and a respectful, accountable work environment.
- Participate in management on-call schedule as assigned.
- Attend work as scheduled and arrive at the designated time.
- Perform work onsite due to the need to provide direct client services, staff leadership, and operational oversight.
Secondary Duties
- Lead or participate in shift changes, staff meetings, leadership meetings, and agency training.
- Support coordination with volunteers, the Community Engagement Team, emergency responders, referral partners, and other community stakeholders.
- Monitor facility, supply, vehicle, donation, and resource needs and coordinate follow-up with appropriate personnel.
- Provide direct client or Recovery Assistant support when operational needs require and within training and scope.
- Perform other functions as necessary or assigned.

A degree in social services or a related field and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. At least one year of supervisory or people-management experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise multiple levels of staff, build schedules, manage performance, develop training, and implement operational change.
- Working knowledge of employment practices, documentation standards, licensing requirements, and quality improvement in a human-services setting.
- Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality requirements, agency policies and procedures, and interact professionally with a diverse workforce, clients, families, community partners, and the public.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and use de-escalation skills during crisis situations.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities, adapt to changing program needs, and work effectively as part of a team.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and required electronic recordkeeping platforms.
- Familiarity with substance use disorders, withdrawal, trauma-informed care, and social-model detoxification, or willingness to learn.
- Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
- Must become and remain CPR and First Aid certified within the required timeframe.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver's license, have an acceptable driving record, and be insurable under the agency's liability policy.
- Must pass required Utah Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs and move throughout the facility.
- Ability to interact with clients and staff for extended periods in a 24-hour residential setting.
- Ability to perform computer and documentation tasks for extended periods as required.
