Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Intermediate Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with tracheostomy cares Experience with BiPap Experience with stroke patients IV titration skills Description: The unit has 23 beds and provides care for patients in an intermediate care setting. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3-4. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Common diagnoses include stroke, cardiac issues, sepsis, and surgical cases. RNs are required to titrate drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, cardizem, levophed, cardene, and precedex. A charge nurse is available on each shift and ideally does not take patients but may do so when necessary. Patient care techs are available on the unit, usually managing 8-23 patients per shift. RNs are responsible for troubleshooting equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen. Monitor techs observe rhythms and rates, but nurses interpret their own strips. The unit operates on a 12-hour shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Travelers will participate in a weekend rotation based on unit needs. Holiday shifts are required every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other units may be necessary, excluding emergency and obstetrics departments. Professional scrubs are required in any color, but scrubs are not provided. Unit-specific orientation consists of 1-2 shifts.
