L&I Workers' Compensation Adjudicator 4/Trainer

The Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 4 (WCA 4) is a project position within L&I Claims Administration’s Insurance Services Claims Training unit. This role is responsible for developing, updating, and delivering training for newly hired support staff, adjudicators, and apprenticeship participants. This opportunity is open to current Labor & Industries employees only. The position is funded through June 30 2027 and is a non‑permanent project. Duties Use analytical and soft‑skills to train staff in strategic claim‑management approaches. Act as a technical resource on complex claim‑management issues for benefit administrators. Provide training and coaching to ensure consistent application of policies and laws. Consult with internal resources (coaches, claim consultants, pension adjudicators, occupational nurse consultants, etc.) to address training needs and provide a consistent message. Interact with Claims Administration, Employer Services, Integrated Claims Services, RTW Partnerships, Legal Services and Self‑Insurance to maintain and improve consistency between programs. Serve as a technical resource for Workers’ Compensation Adjudicators on procedures involving BPS, ORION, LINIIS and ECS. Develop and update instructional material for Claims Administration. Provide technical adjudication support to all levels of claims staff and respond to stakeholder inquiries. Qualifications Required: Successful completion of the Labor & Industries Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 2 Apprenticeship program, and one year of experience as a Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 3. OR a Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience adjudicating workers’ or crime‑victim’s compensation insurance claims, or adjudication of time‑loss payments. OR equivalent education/experience. Thorough working knowledge of Washington State Industrial Insurance Laws, Washington Administrative Code, case law, department policies and medical terminology. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Provide information, techniques, instruction, feedback, and encouragement. Teach, mentor, and encourage others to maximize success. Team‑focused approach, ability to contribute to team cohesion. Open, honest, professional, and approachable with strong interpersonal skills. Effectively manage time by setting priorities and adjusting when priorities change. Proficient with personal computers and multiple drives. Current skills presenting difficult topics. A thorough working knowledge of BPS, ORION, LINIIS and ECS. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times. Supplemental Information Telework is an available option; flexible custom work schedules may also be offered. The assigned duty station is Tumwater, Washington, but telework is contingent upon business needs and supervisor approval.
