Engagement Coordinator

Overview Engagement Coordinator will lead and coordinate stewardship and public outreach efforts for the Education & Engagement Unit. Working closely with other departments and units, this role will be the primary contact leading Coastal Roots and other stewardship programs within the department. The Coordinator will manage these programs from school engagement to site coordination and program expansion. Additionally, the Coordinator will host teacher trainings, develop educational materials, and support the development of public outreach initiatives and other Education & Engagement programming to address the Sea Grant priority of advancing environmental literacy and workforce development. Responsibilities Manages the implementation of the Coastal Roots program, including communicating with participating schools, coordinating plantings at restoration sites, conducting yard inspections, maintaining records, purchasing supplies, and further developing the program. Coastal Roots is a partnership between many different organizations and schools, and it requires strong communication and collaboration skills. Develops and curates educational resources and trainings associated with Sea Grant's stewardship portfolio, including projects like Coastal Roots, Native Fish in the Classroom, and marine debris. Disseminates this information to various audiences across coastal Louisiana and coordinates with Sea Grant extension personnel to extend educational activities into other regions of Louisiana. Participates in planning and preparation for project-based and place-based learning initiatives, including Ocean Commotion, Wetland Days, LaDIA, and citizen/community science projects. This includes leading efforts within these initiatives and supervising participating partners such as Sea Grant personnel, faculty, graduate students, and teachers supporting tasks with education activities. Develops, organizes, and supervises education endeavors highlighting Sea Grant-supported research activities, which could include lesson plans or other educational content. Supervises 2-4 students providing support to the LSU Sea Grant Education and Engagement program. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Marine Science, Education, Engineering, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Conservation, or Geography. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree and 2-8 years of experience in education or outreach activities. Previous work in formal or non-formal education settings. Knowledge of coastal Louisiana. Additional Information Some travel and irregular hours are required (10-15%).
