HVAC Technician

Location: Ladson, SC 29456
Pay Rate: $28–$30/hour
Shift: 2-2-3 Rotating Schedule | 12-Hour Shifts
Schedule Rotation: 1 month days / 1 month nights

Job Summary

The HVAC/R Technician will utilize strong mechanical and electrical skills to provide an advanced level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration-related equipment in an industrial environment.

The technician will also provide instruction and assistance to other technicians as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide variety of facility and process-related equipment.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair:
• • Heating and ventilation equipment
  • Rooftop AHUs
  • Split systems
  • Pumps and fans
  • Chillers
  • Freezers, coolers, and refrigerators
  • Dryers and compressors
  • Other mechanical equipment as required
• Utilize the Building Automation System (BAS) to monitor building conditions and facility equipment operation.
• Use Automated Building Controls training to respond to and provide service/feedback to customers regarding work orders, hot calls, and cold calls.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC controls and operating systems according to schedules in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Recommend improvements to maintenance methods and equipment performance.
• Safely work with 3-phase power up to and including 480V .
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical circuits ranging from 24VAC/DC through lighting and load centers .
• Operate measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to support energy-efficiency solutions.
• Use hand tools, laptop computers, diagnostic equipment, and other tools required to perform maintenance activities.
• Perform general equipment maintenance as needed.
• Maintain a strict work schedule while remaining flexible to meet customer needs.
• Follow all applicable safety guidelines, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and PPE requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
• 0–3 years of experience as an HVAC Maintenance Technician in an industrial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• EPA Universal Certification required.
• Ability to work from aerial lifts or scissor lifts at heights of 30 feet or higher .
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
• Valid driver's license may be required.
• Ability to obtain a security access badge at the client location.
• Ability to work overtime, various shifts, weekends, holidays, and alternative work schedules as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical school diploma in:
• • Industrial Electrical
  • Industrial Mechanical
  • HVAC
  • Related skilled trade
• Experience working with 480V, 3-phase electrical systems .
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) .
• Experience repairing and installing sheet metal related to air-handling systems.
• Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment.
• Experience reading technical prints and schematics.
• Experience with restaurant-style refrigeration systems.
• Experience with facility maintenance, including:
• • Garage doors
  • Light plumbing
  • Dock locks
  • Electrical systems
  • Light carpentry
• Experience maintaining cooling towers manufactured by Reymsa, Cyrco, and Marley .

Physical Requirements

• Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
• Regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs, including approximately 10 or more times during a shift.
• Repeatedly bend, stoop, squat, and kneel during the shift.
• Perform repetitive 90-degree movements.
• Repeatedly stretch and reach.
• Walk extensively throughout the facility.
• Perform repetitive wrist movements for certain tasks.
• Differentiate colors for wire color-coding.
• Use a company/client-approved utility knife.
• Interact professionally and courteously with clients, including during periods of stress.
• Wear required PPE, including:
• • Steel-toe safety shoes with metatarsal guards
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves
  • Hard hat
  • Other PPE as required
