CNC Programmer III

CNC Programmer III Responsible for writing and updating computer‑numerical control (CNC) programs to control contour path machining of metal parts or tooling on automatic machine tools. Job Summary Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of parts to determine dimensions and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates. Creates and evaluates tool designs and coordinates with engineering for appropriate changes. Analyzes, designs, and manufactures machine holding fixtures for parts. Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part. Prepares geometric layout using Mastercam software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths. Writes instruction sheets, check sheets, and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine. Writes programs for multi‑axis CNC milling & lathe machines. Compares computer printout with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions. Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions. Observes operation of programs using NC plot software to prove out tool paths. Effectively trains and mentors operators for evaluating and resolving process issues. Resolves CNC program and associated manufacturing issues with all relevant departments. Initiates continuous improvement To‑Do list ideas and set‑up time and cycle‑time improvements. Effectively writes standard operation instructions. Sets up and operates all CNC machines in facility. Properly handles and manages hazardous waste generated in work area. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Qualifications Proficient knowledge of Mastercam & SolidWorks. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required. Ability to work independently and have a good memory for detail. Strong analytical and communication skills and meticulous work habits. Pleasant personality; must interact with all levels of personnel. Availability for overtime and weekend work as needed to support manufacturing. Read and understand internal procedures and policies. Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook. Expert; works independently without supervision. Computer skills: proficient use of new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance. Proficient use of shop math skills such as addition/subtraction of whole numbers, time intervals and trigonometry. Required Experience and Education Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; minimum 5‑7 years related experience in job function and/or training.
