Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Help set coverage priorities, enterprise reporting, breaking-news plans, and follow-up coverage.
• Produce and oversee assigned newscasts from planning through air, ensuring strong pacing, writing, graphics, live elements, and accuracy.
• Manage, coach, and develop producers, reporters and digital staff; provide regular feedback and performance accountability.
• Collaborate with the News Director, Assignment Desk, Digital and Production teams to execute station priorities and special projects.
• Make real-time editorial decisions during breaking news, severe weather, and major live coverage.
• Ensure all content meets the Station's editorial standards, legal and ethical guidelines, and FCC requirements.
• Use audience data, digital metrics, and viewer feedback to improve coverage, presentation, and engagement.
• Build distinctive local content that serves the community, reflects diverse viewpoints, and strengthens the station's brand.
• Maintain clear communication across shifts and ensure rundowns, digital plans, and newsroom workflows are current and organized.
• Assist with scheduling, staffing, long-range planning, election coverage, sweeps initiatives, sponsored content and other station-wide priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years of television news producing experience; prior leadership experience preferred.
• Strong editorial judgment, broadcast writing, copy editing, and breaking-news decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Experience with newsroom systems, rundowns, digital publishing, social media, and audience analytics.
• Strong communication, coaching, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Flexible availability, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended breaking-news coverage.
