Scientist II, Lead Generation Biology

Neurocrine Biosciences seeks a Scientist II to design, optimize, and execute biochemical and cell-based assays across multiple drug discovery projects. The role involves developing robust assay platforms, generating high-quality data, and partnering with cross-functional teams to inform project decisions from hit identification through candidate selection.

Responsibilities

• Design, optimize, troubleshoot, and routinely execute complex biochemical and cell-based assays for small molecules, peptides, and antibodies
• Apply quantitative pharmacology to analyze concentration-response relationships and assay performance; identify variability sources
• Perform molecular biology techniques including Western blotting and transient transfections to understand mechanisms of action
• Partner with disease-biology scientists to translate biological questions into fit-for-purpose assay strategies and experimental plans
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and clearly communicate results, technical risks, and recommendations at team meetings

Requirements

• BS/BA in scientific field with 4+ years in vitro pharmacology experience, or MS/MA with 2+ years, or PhD preferred
• Hands-on experience developing and executing cell-based and biochemical assays
• Proficiency with assay platforms such as flow cytometry, ELISA, HTRF, AlphaLISA, MSD, or BLI
• Primary mammalian cell culture experience, including immune and CNS-relevant cell types
• Working knowledge of cellular immunology, inflammatory signaling, and/or CNS biology
• Ability to independently plan experiments, analyze complex data, and communicate findings to multidisciplinary teams
• Experience with liquid handling automation and LIMS systems preferred
