Position Summary:

The Industry 4.0 Engineer II is a technical role responsible for designing, developing, and implementing secure integrations between industrial (OT) systems and enterprise (IT) platforms. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role contributes to building API-driven solutions, integrating IoT and automation technologies, and supporting secure, scalable system architectures aligned with industry and cybersecurity standards. The position is designed to develop broad technical capability across Industry 4.0 technologies, enterprise systems, and cybersecurity practices in support of client engagements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Designs, develops, tests, and documents API and protocol integrations between edge / IoT devices and enterprise IT platforms (SAP S/4HANA EWM, SAP BTP, Infor CSA, Microsoft Fabric, customer ERP / MES) using REST, OData, SOAP, MQTT, OPC UA, AMQP, gRPC, and webhook patterns.
• Ensures all integrations align with applicable cybersecurity and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, CMMC, IEC).
• Implements secure IT / OT convergence solutions aligned with the RAMI 4.0 reference architecture and the Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture (ISA-95 / IEC 62264), including network segmentation, identity and access management, TLS 1.2+ encryption, certificate / PKI management, and zero-trust controls between Levels 0 through 5.
• Integrates RTLS, RFID, and industrial automation hardware — including KINEXON UWB anchors and tags, Zebra fixed and mobile RFID readers, RF Controls smart antennas, Dexory autonomous inventory robots, Catalyst DC torque tools, VersaCall Andon systems, and GemOne MHE telematics — with customer SAP EWM and ERP environments.
• Develops, implements, and maintains cybersecurity controls for IoT / OT integrations and the supporting enterprise environment, including alignment with NIST SP 800-171, CMMC 2.0 Level 2, NIST SP 800-82 (Industrial Control Systems Security), IEC 62443, ISO/IEC 27001, and applicable DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs); contributes to system hardening, vulnerability remediation, secure configuration management, and continuous-monitoring activities using Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM), Microsoft Purview, Intune, Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and comparable tooling in Microsoft 365 GCC High, Azure, and Azure Government environments.
• Develops security automation in Python and PowerShell to streamline secure deployment, configuration management, evidence collection, and continuous compliance monitoring; supports CMMC Level 2 assessment readiness, network and data-flow diagram development, control-mapping evidence, and Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M) tracking for C5MI and applicable client environments.
• Supports configuration, commissioning, and acceptance testing of edge technology deployments at C5MI's Live Warehouse Experience Center (LWEC) and at customer sites.
• Writes, maintains, and reviews integration code in Python and JavaScript / TypeScript (Node.js), and with mentorship, ABAP, SAP CDS views, OData service development, and Microsoft Fabric notebooks; participates in Git-based version control, peer code reviews, and engineering documentation.
• Authors technical artifacts including integration architecture diagrams, API specifications (OpenAPI / Swagger), network and protocol design documents, security control mappings, and acceptance test packages aligned with C5MI Standard Operating Procedures (e.g., the C5MI-SOP-RTLS series).
• Investigates and remediates integration defects, protocol mismatches, network and security anomalies, and edge device performance issues; escalates appropriately to senior engineers, customer technical staff, and OEM partner support organizations.
• Participates in OEM partner enablement and certification activities (SAP, KINEXON, Zebra, RF Controls, Dexory) and contributes to C5MI's internal Industry 4.0 knowledge base, including reusable integration patterns, reference designs, and demo storyboards for the LWEC.
• Engages constructively with C5MI's AI-augmented engineering workflows, applying approved internal AI tools to accelerate design, code generation, documentation, and code review while validating all output for technical correctness, security, and quality.
• Pursues continuous technical development through structured mentorship, vendor and industry training, certifications, and participation in C5MI's Industry 4.0 community of practice.
• Adheres to all certified processes as part of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and information security, which includes actively participating in quality assurance activities and ensuring the protection of sensitive information in accordance with our security policies.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by direct supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

• • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a closely related technical discipline with 3-5 years of relevant professional or internship/co-op experience in software development, systems integration, networking, or cybersecurity; or no degree and 5-7 years of stated experience.
  • Working knowledge of at least two of the following: REST / APIs, JSON / XML data formats, TCP/IP networking, TLS / PKI fundamentals, MQTT, OPC UA, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, or PROFINET.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python or JavaScript / TypeScript, with familiarity in version control (e.g., Git).
  • Foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles, including identity and access management, network segmentation, encryption, and secure software development practices.
  • Hands-on experience with cybersecurity or compliance frameworks, such as NIST, CMMC, ISO 27001, or similar standards.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and produce technical documentation, including API specifications, system diagrams, and integration workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and client stakeholders.
  • S. person status required due to anticipated work on DoD engagements.
  • Active U.S. DoD security clearance at the Secret level or higher is strongly preferred; candidates with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and a demonstrated track record of cleared-environment work may also be considered.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to fifty percent (50%) to customer sites, partner facilities, and C5MI engagement locations.

• Certifications & Technical Breadth:
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Security/Azure, ISC2, ISACA, GIAC)
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCC High) or containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Demonstrated ability and interest in developing expertise across Industry 4.0 technologies, enterprise platforms, and cybersecurity domains.
• Exposure to defense logistics environments and standards, including Accountable Property Systems of Record (APSR), DoDI 5000.64, IUID, WAWF / iRAPT, or DLMS.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing, aerospace and defense, automotive, or industrial logistics environment, including familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and Industry 4.0 use cases.

Compensation:

In accordance with pay transparency law, the expected salary range for this position is $105,121.00– $131,402.00 annually . The actual compensation offered will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and location. We are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This posted range reflects our good faith estimate of the compensation we reasonably expect to offer for this role at the time of posting.
