Coax SplicerPosition Type: Direct HireContract Duration: Long TermWork Schedule: 8 hours/day (Sunday–Thursday) typically 9:00 PM–7:00 AM; (schedule may vary by market)Location: 100% Onsite - Buffalo, NYTravel: Extensive travel (up to 100%) based on project needThe 3rd Shift Network Evolution Coaxial Cable Splice is responsible for performing overnight HFC network upgrades, maintenance, and restoration activities supporting large-scale Network Evolution initiatives. This position plays a critical role in modernizing broadband infrastructure by completing node segmentation, amplifier replacements, hardline modifications, actives swaps, and network cutovers while minimizing customer impact during designated maintenance windows. Candidates must possess strong troubleshooting skills, work independently in live network environments, and maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform coaxial cable splicing on feeder and distribution hardline cable.Complete amplifier, line extender, node, and passive device replacements during scheduled maintenance windows.Execute Network Evolution upgrades, including node segmentation, plant rearrangements, and network cutovers.Prepare, splice, activate, and restore network services within scheduled outage windows.Perform RF balancing and signal optimization following equipment replacement.Troubleshoot and resolve network impairments including ingress, egress, MER, SNR, tilt, and signal level issues.Read and interpret system maps, engineering prints, work packages, and construction documentation.Verify service restoration before maintenance windows close.Coordinate with Network Operations Center (NOC), Maintenance, Construction, Engineering, and project management teams.Document all completed work, test results, and material usage accurately.Participate in emergency outage restoration and storm response activities as required.Travel extensively to support Network Evolution projects in multiple markets.Required QualificationsMinimum of three years of HFC maintenance or coaxial cable splicing experience.Experience working on live HFC broadband networks.Strong understanding of RF signal flow and network architecture.Experience replacing and balancing: Amplifiers, Line Extenders, System Passives, Directional Couplers, Splitters, Nodes, Power Supplies.Ability to read and interpret system maps and engineering prints.Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting Charter Communications Network Evolution projects.Previous MSO experience with Charter, Comcast, Cox, Altice, or Mediacom.Experience performing overnight maintenance window cutovers.Bucket truck certification.OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.CDL (preferred but not required).Fiber optic splicing or troubleshooting experience is a plus.Required Technical SkillsHardline coaxial cable preparation and splicingRF balancingForward and return path troubleshootingSweep verificationSignal level testingIngress and egress mitigationNetwork outage restorationPlant documentationConstruction print interpretationPreventive maintenanceEmergency restoration proceduresEquipment ExperienceSignal Level Meter (SLM)Spectrum AnalyzerLeakage DetectorSweep EquipmentTDRBucket TruckHardline Coring ToolsTorque WrenchesCompression ToolsHand and Power ToolsSafety Equipment and PPEScheduleFull-timeThird Shift (typically 9:00 PM–7:00 AM; schedule may vary by market)Sunday–Thursday or project-specific schedulesOvertime frequently availableWeekend work as requiredOn-call rotation during major outagesExtensive travel (up to 100%) based on project needsPhysical RequirementsLift and carry up to 75 pounds.Climb poles, ladders, and bucket trucks.Work in underground vaults, pedestals, and aerial plant.Perform repetitive bending, kneeling, lifting, and climbing.Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Stand and walk for extended periods.Performance ExpectationsComplete all maintenance window work safely and on schedule.Restore customer services before the maintenance window closes.Maintain exceptional splice quality with minimal repeat work.Meet productivity and quality goals established for Network Evolution projects.Accurately document all work completed.Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork across field operations.Follow all OSHA, company, and customer safety standards.
