Job TitleFelony Criminal InvestigatorJob DescriptionDutiesDirect felony-level criminal investigations to neutralize security threats within the assigned area of responsibility.Oversee criminal intelligence operations to identify emerging transnational or organized crime patterns.Develop long-range strategic objectives to guide regional law enforcement operations.Analyze statistical management data to track unit caseload postures or operational readiness.Represent the investigative unit on regional crime councils to coordinate mutual aid or inter-agency operations.Negotiate strategic agreements with federal or state law enforcement partners to establish joint task forces.Evaluate subordinate supervisors by issuing formal performance appraisals.Adjudicate major disciplinary actions or serious employee grievances to maintain organizational discipline.Requirements Conditions of employmentAppointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.Must obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Clearance.Pre-employment and random drug testing is required IAW AR 600-85.Must successfully complete a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.Must qualify with and carry a firearm.This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.This position may require travel up to 20% of the time.Must agree in writing to comply with management-directed permanent change of station (PCS) movement to meet mission requirements. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service (or equivalent rigorous public safety/law enforcement experience) which includes experience: Managing complex, multi-jurisdictional felony criminal investigations, or criminal intelligence operations; Developing strategic, long-range operational plans for investigative programs; Representing the organization, to include coordinating joint law enforcement operations or liaison activities with high-level external stakeholders, military commanders, or senior law enforcement executives; and Directing a professional law enforcement workforce, including resolving complex personnel issues or evaluating performance.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Performance of above duties requires moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that the incumbent may perform the duties satisfactorily. Incumbent must possess sufficiently good vision, with or without glasses, in each eye, in order that they may perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, glasses permitted, must be acute for reading of printed materials the size of typewritten characters. The ability of incumbent to hear conversational voices and whispered speech is required. Any hearing impairment may be compensated for by use of a hearing aid. Since the duties of the position are exacting, responsible, and involve work performed under arduous and dangerous conditions, you must possess emotional and mental stability. Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Special Retirement Coverage (SRC): This position has been approved by the Department of Defense for LEO special retirement coverage as a secondary supervisory position under 5 U.S.C. § 8336(c) and 5 U.S.C. § 8412(d). To be covered under the special LEO retirement provisions, a selectee must meet specific statutory requirements (such as transferring directly from a primary LEO position to this secondary position with no break in service exceeding 3 days). If selected, applicants who do not meet these requirements will be covered under the regular Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) rules, as applicable.
