Title: Environmental Technician

Starting Pay: $22/hr depending on experience

Schedule: Mon - Fri: 530a - 2p (or until job is done)

Saturdays are optional but encouraged: 6a - 2p

Location: Queens, NY

• Looking for someone that is willing to work hard and with waste
• If they have environmental experience they will look at that as well.

Qualifications:

• Interested in working in hazardous waste field
• Self-motivated person with the desire to learn
• If they have Environmental experience that is a bonus but not required
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable form of transportation

Manager Notes

• This is mostly labor work
• They are working with local schools right now picking up unused sanitizer, paint, bulk waste, and cleaning out tanks
• These 200-600 gallon tanks contain lime stone for filtration which need to be changed out with fresh stone
• They will shovel the stone out and then put new in
• They also do lab decon projects

Our client, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, is seeking a Environmental Technician for their Astoria, NY team. Experience is preferred but we will train the right people!

Responsibilities: Perform universal/chemical waste disposal, neutralization tank remediation, chemical inventory, lab services support, confined space entries, chemical decontamination, underground and aboveground storage tank cleaning and closure, sample collection, separator cleaning and emergency response services

• Show determination/eagerness to learn and retain a basic knowledge of daily work practices
• Develop an understanding of DOT, EPA & OSHA regulations and Health and Safety Practices
• Understand and execute all required paperwork
• Pickup and delivery of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and materials with a sharp focus on customer service
• Be able to wear a respirator for 4 to 6 hours for client specific projects
• Provide clients with high-quality and professional customer service
• Routinely perform vehicle pre- and post-trip inspections
• Assist Supervisor, Leadman and other Equipment Operators as requested

Basic Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent

• Basic knowledge of, or interest in, hazardous waste field
• Self-motivated person with the desire to learn
• Successful completion of OSHA/ DOT physical examination which includes drug and alcohol screening
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without future sponsorship
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable form of transportation
• Willingness to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class with Hazmat Endorsement
• Must be willing to consent to pre-employment physical and drug screen (inclusive of THC)
• Upon employment, you will be required to participate in a random drug screening program (inclusive of THC) as part of our company’s commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
• This is a Safety Sensitive Position
• Must be able to lift 60 pounds on a regular basis
• The Environmental Technician frequently handles hazardous chemicals and biological waste and is responsible for putting on and taking off personal protective equipment. This role is considered safety-sensitive.

Preferred Requirements: Prior relevant industry experience

• Active HAZWOPER 24- or 40-hour certification
• Possess Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class with Hazmat Endorsement
