Senior AWS Developer

Job Summary:

The NC DHHS AWS Senior Developer is a highly experienced software professional responsible for designing, developing, and managing advanced AWS cloud solutions. This role focuses on modernizing legacy applications, building enterprise-level data lakes, and collaborating closely with data modernization teams to implement scalable, secure, and efficient cloud infrastructures. The ideal candidate possesses extensive AWS expertise, strong software development skills, and experience with data processing, security, and DevOps practices. Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and propose effective modernization strategies.
• Design, develop, test, debug, and deliver AWS solutions within project timelines using best practices.
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support throughout project delivery.
• Act as a trusted advisor on industry trends and emerging AWS technologies.
• Implement complex, scalable, and secure AWS architectures tailored to customer needs.
• Identify architectural risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Ensure adherence to standards, security, and best practices.
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• 10+ years of experience with AWS services including VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue Crawlers, and Athena.
• 10+ years of experience in data processing and transformation using AWS Glue, Lambda, EMR, Athena, Apache Flink, Step Functions, and SageMaker.
• 7+ years of experience in data ingestion and storage with S3, Kinesis Data Streams, Kinesis Data Firehose, and DMS.
• 7+ years of experience modernizing applications including refactoring, migration, and cloud-native development.
• 7+ years of experience with modern database technologies and migration strategies.
• 7+ years of experience creating AWS ETL jobs and managing high-volume data pipelines.
• 7+ years of experience with DevOps practices, automation tools, CI/CD pipeline development, monitoring, and logging.
• 7+ years of software development experience with strong Java skills including J2EE, Spring framework, and Hibernate.
• 7+ years of experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
• Hands-on Python scripting skills for customizing AWS ETL logic.
• Knowledge of security and data governance including permissions management, encryption, auditing, and compliance.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with data analytics and business intelligence tools such as Power BI or AWS QuickSight.
• AWS Certification.
• Experience with state government projects or environments.
• Familiarity with object-oriented programming languages beyond Java and Python.

Scheduling:

• Full-time engagement from 09/08/2026 through 09/07/2027.
• Work schedule follows client requirements, potentially involving standard business hours with no specified shift pattern.
• Availability for the full duration of the assignment is required.
