Position: Associate Designer - Tweens

Location: New York, NY

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: Up to $85k

Position Overview

The Associate Designer will support the design and development of girls’ apparel, focusing on the tween market and knitwear. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to bring creative concepts to life, ensuring alignment with brand direction and customer preferences. The position requires strong trend awareness, technical design skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of girls’ apparel, focusing on the tween market and knitwear, ensuring alignment with brand vision.
\n
• Research trends, silhouettes, colors, fabrics, prints, and emerging styles relevant to the tween customer to inform seasonal direction.
\n
• Assist with seasonal concept development, including mood boards, color palettes, and design presentations.
\n
• Create and update sketches, CADs, technical drawings, and design specifications to communicate design intent.
\n
• Collaborate with design, merchandising, technical design, and production teams throughout the product development process.
\n
• Participate in fabric and trim sourcing, ensuring materials align with seasonal direction and product requirements.
\n
• Review samples and provide design feedback to ensure products meet aesthetic and quality standards.
\n
• Maintain accurate design documentation, development trackers, and seasonal line sheets.
\n
• Communicate with vendors and cross-functional partners to support timely sample development and approvals.
\n
• Monitor market trends and competitive offerings to identify new design opportunities.
\n
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
\n

Required Experience/Skills

\n
• Previous experience in apparel design, specifically within girls’ or tween apparel.
\n
• Demonstrated experience designing or developing knitwear.
\n
• Strong understanding of the tween customer, including current trends, silhouettes, and lifestyle preferences.
\n
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
\n
• Strong knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, color, and print.
\n
• Ability to create clear, accurate design sketches and CADs.
\n
• Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
\n
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
\n
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
\n

Preferred Experience/Skills

\n
• 2+ years of apparel design experience.
\n
• Experience within a private label apparel company or major label group.
\n
• Experience developing products across multiple girls’ apparel categories.
\n
• Familiarity with the product development process from initial concept through production.
\n
• Experience working with overseas vendors and manufacturing partners.
\n
• Proficiency in PLM systems.
\n

Education Requirements

\n
• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
\n
• Coursework or training in apparel design, textiles, or product development.
\n
• Strong portfolio demonstrating creative and technical design capabilities.
\n
• Continued learning in trend forecasting and market analysis preferred.
\n
• Knowledge of design software and digital tools used in apparel development.
\n
