Court Support Specialist

Overview Job Title: Court Support Specialist Pay Rate: Min to Mid Range $40,872.00 - $49,050.00 Time Type: Full time Summary Under direction, is responsible for researching court opinions; serves as backup Court Coordinator; provides administrative support for the Courts; replies to inquiries; acts as a liaison; oversees the administrative or clerical staff; routes and distributes mail; assists with the departmental budget; maintains personnel records and performs related duties as required. Duties and Responsibilities Researches court opinions and legislation as instructed by judges and Court Administrators Serves as backup to Court Coordinators Provides administrative support for the Courts Replies to inquiries from the general public regarding court business Acts as liaison between the courts, attorneys, and other participants of the court Oversees the daily activities of the administrative or clerical staff Routes and distributes mail and other judicial documents Assists with budget preparation and management Maintains and updates personnel records Performs related duties as required Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a closely related field, and three (3) years experience in court operations or administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Good knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Family Code, and Code of Criminal Procedures and/or Civil Procedures; knowledge of mental health treatment and social service protocols; knowledge of criminal and/or the civil justice system or trial court management procedures; knowledge of legal terminology; and knowledge of basic office procedures Skill in operating personal computer, typewriter, and essential office equipment Ability to maintain records and compile and organize reports; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to communicate with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, Elected/Appointed Officials, attorneys, and the public Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek Working Environment and Physical Demands Generally working in an office/courtroom environment Frequently moves items weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally moves items weighing up to 50 pounds Occasionally moves about the office Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Generally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery Positions self to perform essential functions Must be able to remain in a stationary position Equal Opportunity and Benefits Bexar County is an Equal Opportunity Employer and committed to Workplace Diversity.
