Adjunct Faculty- Department of Chemistry

Job Description The Chemistry Department at the University of Indianapolis invites applications for an adjunct instructor. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching a 100-level course in chemistry, such as Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry (CHEM104), Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM103), or General Chemistry I (CHEM150) with any associated lab session. This is a part‑time, non‑tenure track position. The position will include but is not limited to: Lecture preparation and delivery Oversight of laboratory experiments Creation and grading of assessments Classroom management Coordination with other members of the department as there are multiple sections of these courses each semester. Requirements / Minimum Qualifications Experience A demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and outstanding interpersonal and collaborative team skills are required. Experience with or interest in alternative instructional modes, such as web‑based instruction, cooperative learning or integrated curricula is preferred. Education Masters in chemistry or a related discipline is required. Ph.D. in chemistry or related discipline is preferred. Essential Functions Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts. Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students on topics relevant to general/introductory chemistry. Evaluate and grade students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, papers and examinations. Supervise laboratory sessions, coordinate laboratory operations, and supervise undergraduate lab assistants. Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences. Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues. Follow the guidance and direction of supervisor(s). Demonstrate respectful, ethical, responsible behavior. Abide by the University’s policies, procedures, and rules. Perform employee responsibilities as detailed in employee handbooks and policies. Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and punctuality. Other duties, including special projects, as required or assigned. This role serves as a Title IX Responsible Employee.
