Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer

The Opportunity PAE is looking for an experienced and highly capable Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer in our New York office to provide advanced technical leadership and guide project teams through all phases of design. The Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer will oversee mechanical engineering project delivery, ensuring work is completed on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with quality and industry standards. The role includes leading the preparation of engineering deliverables (calculations, narratives, drawings, and specifications) and coordinating between internal teams, external partners, and clients. You will apply sound engineering judgment to carry projects from conceptual design through construction administration, assemble and manage project teams, develop detailed workplans, oversee equipment selection and engineering calculations, perform site visits and reporting, and mentor staff. You will contribute to continuous improvement by updating standards, specifications, and processes and uphold the project quality management plan (QMP). What You'll Do Project team leadership and discipline management, ensuring on-time project delivery within budget Prepare deliverables including narratives, calculations, drawings and specifications Attend client meetings and coordinate between external and internal project teams Apply engineering judgment, techniques, and procedures from concepts through construction Proficient in mechanical system design, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Energy Modeling Assemble effective project teams Develop project workplans, tasks and assignments for the team Coordinate interdisciplinary work and ensure compliance with building codes and mechanical standards Oversee engineering calculations and equipment selection Perform site visits and issue reports Provide training, guidance and mentorship for staff Update master specifications and standards and improve company processes Develop client relationships and manage quality management plan application Perform other duties as assigned What You Bring Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in the relevant discipline Professional credential (e.g., PE) Minimum 2-4 years as a Mechanical Lead or 5-10 years of related experience Experience in a leadership role Ability to inspire and motivate staff Technical resource for the company with strong communication of design options Ability to assemble and lead a team with strong delegation skills Attention to detail and strong organizational skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Experience with Revit/AutoCAD What We Offer Base salary range: $113,500-$140,200 annually Overtime eligibility: time and a half where applicable Comprehensive benefits package including health, retirement, professional development, and more Hybrid work schedule and additional employee benefits Our compensation and benefits reflect the company’s commitment to pay equity and competitive total rewards.
