Licensed Practical Nurse - LPN - Inpatient Senior Progressive Care

Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital – 3 Lacks is a 32 all private bed acute care unit that serves patients aged 65 and older. The unit provides high‑acuity, adaptable care, regularly hosting patients on telemetry, cardiac drips, high‑flow oxygen, BiPAP, etc. Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care to all ages, assists the RN in performing and coordinating care for a specific group of patients, and has full access to medications. The LPN’s responsibilities include handling, preparing, and administering medications within the LPN scope of practice. Employment Type Part time Shift Day Shift – 12 hours per week, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM Responsibilities Assist the RN with the initial and ongoing assessment of assigned patients through observation and data collection, as delegated by the RN. Perform activities delegated by the RN or physician, including: venipuncture for specimens, blood cultures, initiation and discontinuation of peripheral IV catheters, and insertion/discontinuation of indwelling and intermittent clean urinary catheters. Obtain laboratory specimens and perform basic point‑of‑care tests such as blood glucose, stool sampling, and sputum collection. Provide basic bedside care and selected procedures under RN supervision, such as 12‑lead ECG, dressing changes, routine respiratory care (coughing and deep breathing techniques, incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, oxygen setup and administration, handheld nebulizer), vital sign monitoring, and recognition and reporting of life‑threatening conditions. Administer physician‑directed treatments such as eye irrigation. Performs other unit‑specific activities such as activities of daily living appropriate to the patient’s condition. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited LPN program. Current Practical Nurse license in the State of Michigan. CPR or BLS certification.
