System Administrator

LHH has a client who needs a Owings Mills, MD – System Administrator will be providing hands on support for delivery and maintenance of IT solutions. Provide IT teams and business personnel with technology solutions by weighing advantages of technology standards, market availability of products, and risks and benefits of technology to meet business/IT needs. Maintain significant customer engagement, work planning, project management services provided to IT customers. What You'll Do Administer and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6/7/8/9 servers in physical and virtual environments. Manage and support VMware vSphere infrastructure to ensure high availability and optimal server performance. Configure, monitor, and maintain Linux server processes, operating systems, backups, and system configurations. Perform server health monitoring, capacity planning, troubleshooting, and performance tuning. Maintain accurate server inventory and configuration management database (CMDB) records. Plan, coordinate, and implement Linux security patching and system upgrades. Support production release management, change implementation, and deployment activities. Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting tools to improve operational efficiency. Assist with server installation, racking, stacking, and hardware maintenance in data centers. Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for production systems and scheduled maintenance. Support on-premises, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud infrastructure environments. Collaborate with IT teams, business stakeholders, and infrastructure partners to deliver reliable server solutions. Implement infrastructure changes while ensuring system stability, security, and compliance with change management processes. Monitor backups, storage systems (SAN, NAS, RAID), virtualization platforms, and disaster recovery solutions. Document system configurations, operational procedures, technical changes, and support activities. Research emerging technologies and recommend improvements for on-premises and cloud infrastructure. Provide technical guidance and support to internal users while maintaining high service availability. Promote operational excellence through automation, continuous improvement, and adherence to security best practices. What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 5–9+ years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, Linux systems, virtualization, cloud computing, or disaster recovery. Strong expertise with VMware vSphere and virtualized infrastructure management. Experience supporting physical, virtual, and cloud-based server environments including Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Linux, Solaris, and Exadata (preferred). Experience with scripting languages such as Python and Shell for automation. Familiarity with Zerto, backup solutions, RAID, SAN, and NAS storage technologies. Understanding of server monitoring, performance tuning, patch management, and release management processes. Knowledge of IT infrastructure, compute platforms, storage systems, and cloud technologies. Experience implementing infrastructure changes following ITIL/change management best practices. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Willingness to participate in 24/7 on-call support, perform after-hours maintenance, travel as needed, and assist with physical server installations.
