Primary Care Service Line Director Chicago, IL Overview The Primary Care Service Line Director serves as the physician lead of Rush's primary care service line, allocating 50% effort to administrative leadership and 50% to clinical practice. In this role the Director partners with the administrative Executive Director to set strategic direction, drive operational performance, and advance clinical excellence across the network, leading a team of regional medical directors and shaping the future of primary care delivery at a major academic medical center. Job Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Operations Lead the strategic planning process for service line growth and operational initiatives in collaboration with the administrative Executive Director, regional physician leaders, and departmental administration. Establish and lead service line governance in partnership with the Executive Director, enabling consistent escalation, delegated decision‑making, and accountability across the network. Manage key performance metrics, including volumes, patient satisfaction, and access. Lead program development and implementation of new clinical services. Assist in system integration of care across existing and future affiliated sites. Financial Management & Business Development Prepare and manage the annual service line budget in partnership with the administrative Executive Director. Monitor financial performance and identify margin improvement opportunities, including growth, revenue enhancements, and cost reduction initiatives. Oversee managed care activities and lead the faculty recruitment process; partner with the executive director to develop financial models for revenue/activity projections. Quality & Compliance Ensure compliance with state/federal laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. Develop and implement department and personnel policies and procedures consistent with medical center guidelines and meet HCFA, Joint Commission, and corporate compliance standards. Lead performance improvement activities and educational programs, monitor healthcare service quality, and coordinate risk minimization efforts. Implement patient safety and quality assurance policies and procedures. Maintain a patient‑centric focus by modeling consistent emphasis on patient and family relations, customer satisfaction, and clinical outcomes. Team Leadership & Collaboration Work closely with department Chairs and strategic planning to develop the annual board report, budgetary volume projections, and new strategic growth initiatives, including selection and implementation of new technology and faculty recruitment. Serve as the physician dyad partner with the Executive Director for the primary care service line, jointly owning strategy, performance, and culture and overseeing a structure of regional medical directors. Establish and maintain close working relationships with corporate compliance to ensure ongoing compliance with all state and federal requirements. Foster a positive work environment promoting open communication, independent thinking, and service excellence while engaging in performance improvement activities and educational programs. Interact with regional and national experts for sharing information, experience, practice, and research. Partner with Faculty & Provider Recruitment to attract and retain top‑tier physicians and advanced practice providers. Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required. Board certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine‑Pediatrics. Current, unrestricted medical license (or eligibility) in Illinois. Minimum 8 years progressive experience in a health system or academic medical center. Minimum 2 years of people management experience. Significant exposure to service lines across inpatient and outpatient settings preferred. Demonstrated marketing capability, analytical skills, and business acumen. Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint). Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with physician leaders. Capability to manage multiple concurrent projects independently and as part of a team. Total Pay Range: $350,000 - $400,000 Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, incentive programs, sign‑on and retention bonuses, and relocation allowances. The total pay range reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including knowledge and skills, relevant experience and training, education, certifications, licensure, work location, and other business and organizational factors.
