Position Overview Perform diversified general maintenance activities at various levels of complexity, referring to blueprints and drawings for the machinery plan and perform the machining operations. Responsibilities Level I-II Set up and operate lathes, millers, shapers, grinders, planers and power drills Work from blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions Perform highly diversified machining operations such as boring, turning, facing, reaming, grinding, milling and tapering Work on machined parts, forgings and castings of varying complexity and critical dimensions Determine and maintain proper operational sequences, making necessary mathematical calculations to complete the job Determine appropriate feeds and speeds for all operations Check own work; typically work to tolerance of +/- .00005 Read and interpret complex blueprints and manufacture parts from a layout drawing without use of sketches or verbal instructions, making all necessary mathematical calculations Perform bench work including filing, deburring, grinding, lapping, indexing, scraping and fitting to complete mechanical assemblies from crude sketches, verbal instructions or work samples Check own work by setting up and interpreting gauges, electro‑limit gauges and size blocks Occasionally make decisions regarding fits and tolerances Level II Perform all essential functions and competencies listed above Set up, operate, alter, repair and plan own work Perform complex checking and interpret results of own work by setting up and operating instruments such as air gauges, electro‑limit gauges and size blocks Usually work to tolerances of +/- .001 or +/- .0005 Ensure quality of work to meet or exceed customer satisfaction expectations Position Measurements Performance may be measured from Corporate and Divisional Balanced Score Card goals, including but not limited to financial performance, customer satisfaction, operational excellence and employee focus Individual position performance goals may be specific to the position, business segment or related to an individual’s contribution or employment within the organization Qualifications Level I-II Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form Understanding of manufacturing systems and tooling development Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills Effective multitasking, organizational and prioritization skills High attention to detail and discretion, confidentiality and professionalism when representing the company Ability to support a 24/7 global business operation as required Ability to work overtime when needed, and to work with diverse groups Participation in continuous improvement activities Review of job analysis forms for specific physical stressors of the job Level I 2‑year technical degree (or apprenticeship certificate) preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience 0‑3+ years of experience in machining operations Level II 2‑year technical degree (or apprenticeship certificate) preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience 6+ years of experience in complex machining operations; may include CNC programming Additional Details Geographical Location: Arizona, Tempe Shift: Shift 2 (Monday‑Friday 1:15pm – 9:45pm) Employment Type: Full Time Safety‑Sensitive Position and Drug Testing Notice This position is classified as safety‑sensitive because impairment while performing job duties could pose a significant risk of harm.
