Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and manage patients medically. They will also have the opportunity to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Eligibility Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Murphy Animal Clinic are open to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Stipend Information Details on the stipend program can be found on the careers site.
