About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med Surg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (1900 to 0730) Experience: 1 year of acute care nursing experience required License: Current RN license required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience Ability to titrate drips Experience with common diagnoses such as post-surgical cases, including orthopedic, urology, GYN/ONC, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, ENT, plastics, and GI Description: The department consists of 15 beds. The nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift. Common types of patients include post-surgical cases and acute medical patients with a short anticipated length of stay. Registered Nurses are required to titrate medications, including Heparin and occasionally nitroglycerin, Cardizem, and insulin. Telemetry and monitor technicians are present, while registered nurses are responsible for reading their own strips. There is a charge nurse on all shifts who takes assignments, and a house supervisor is available on all shifts. Nursing assistants are present during the day shift, with ratios of 1:8-12. Registered nurses take a lower ratio during night shifts if no nursing assistant is available. Respiratory therapy support is present for CPAP, BIPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy, but not for ventilators. Nurses are expected to float to other adult medical/surgical nursing units as needed. Scrubs should be clean and professional with no color restrictions. Weekend and holiday requirements include working every other weekend and holiday. There is no on-call or standby requirement. Self-scheduling is not permitted; block scheduling is implemented based on staffing needs. All clinicians must clock in and out while on duty.
