Human Resources Manager - HR Generalist / Employee Relations

Unity House of Troy is looking for an experienced HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team as our next Human Resources Manager. This is a hands-on, highly visible HR role for someone who enjoys the variety that comes with being a true HR generalist. You will work directly with employees, and managers, on a wide range of HR matters—from employee relations and performance management to compliance, recruiting, benefits, training, and policy development.

Responsibilities

• Partner with managers to address employee performance, attendance, conduct, and workplace concerns.

• Navigate employee relations issues and help managers determine appropriate, consistent, and legally sound next steps.

• Conduct and assist with workplace investigations, including interviewing employees, gathering information, documenting findings, and making recommendations.

• Coach managers on performance management, corrective action, communication, and application of HR policies.

• Serve as a trusted and approachable HR resource for employees at all levels of the organization.

• Monitor and interpret federal and New York State employment laws and help ensure organizational compliance.

• Assist with developing, reviewing, and implementing HR policies and procedures.

• Support recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, benefits, payroll, leaves, employee records, and other areas of the employee lifecycle.

• Identify opportunities to improve HR processes and the overall employee experience.

• Work alongside an experienced Human Resources team on agency-wide initiatives and special projects.

Qualifications

• Has 3+ years of progressive HR experience and a strong generalist background.

• Has meaningful experience handling employee relations and performance management.

• Is comfortable coaching managers through difficult or sensitive employee situations.

• Has experience with workplace investigations, corrective action, attendance issues, and policy interpretation.

• Understands the importance of balancing employee advocacy with organizational needs and legal compliance.

• Has working knowledge of New York State and federal employment laws.

• Is comfortable working independently and making sound decisions while knowing when to seek guidance.

• Can manage multiple priorities without losing sight of the details.

• Is approachable, professional, and able to build credibility and trust with employees and managers.

• Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Is comfortable handling highly confidential and sensitive information.

• Has experience with HRIS/payroll systems; ADP experience is a plus.

• Is proficient with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

• Holds a valid and clean New York State driver's license and has reliable transportation for occasional travel to organizational events and locations
