Job Description Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking a full-time Construction Management faculty member to fill a position starting January 2027. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. Montgomery College's Construction Management program prepares students for a successful career in the construction industry by providing hands-on training, real-world experience, and industry connections. Our program has a long history of producing industry leaders and students who can compete at a national level with students from four-year institutions. The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multi-cultural environment and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committee work, and utilizing instructional technology. Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, hybrid, and/or blended formats during days, evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has three campuses and instructs courses at area high schools. Faculty may be assigned to any of these campuses and/or teaching online. Teaching assignments may also include teaching dual enrollment courses in a high school environment. Duties Teaching multiple courses within the Construction Management curriculum. Depending on the semester and enrollment needs, this may include but not be limited to: CMGT100, Construction Methods and Materials, with emphasis on CSI Master Format Divisions. CMGT110, Construction Plan Reading. This class emphasizes plan reading for both residential and commercial construction projects, including site plans, architectural drawings, mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) drawings, and structural drawings. CMGT135, Construction Field Operation. This class focuses on job site analysis and planning, utilization of equipment, labor and material coordination, records and documentation, field scheduling, safety methods and programs, production efficiency and improvement, leadership and motivation, communications, and human relations. CMGT190, Computer Applications in Construction. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of Microsoft Word and Excel in producing and maintaining documents for the efficient management of construction projects and introduces students to the use of Sage Estimating and On-Screen Takeoff to develop estimates and Primavera P6 for developing construction schedules. CMGT210, Construction Management. This class includes a comprehensive overview of all phases of construction project management. This includes an overview of the construction and design industries, company organization, construction contracts and project delivery methods, project chronology, bidding procedures, construction estimating, and scheduling, cost control and project site administration with a focus on the role of the project manager. CMGT270, Construction Estimating. This course introduces students to the basic methods of construction estimating and preparation of construction estimates. Emphasis is placed on quantity takeoffs of general conditions, sitework, concrete, masonry, metals, carpentry, thermal and moisture control, and finish materials. CMGT280, Mechanical and Electrical Systems. This course provides a study of the basic principles of Mechanical & Electrical Systems related to the Design and Construction Industry. It covers the study of materials, methods, and equipment used in Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems, Electrical Power Systems, Lighting Systems, Water Supply & Waste Systems, and Sewage Disposal Systems in Buildings. Maintaining office hours as committed. Adhering to the college curriculum and course outcomes. Developing course syllabi consistent with the college’s guidelines, college curriculum, and course outcomes. Making recommendations for textbooks and educational support materials to the program coordinator. Submitting to the Applied Technologies Department course syllabi, course calendar, and copies of assignments that contribute more than 20% of the final grade. Meeting grading deadlines as requested by Admissions and Records and deliver feedback/grades to students in a timely manner. Reviewing teaching format, presentation, style, and procedures periodically for potential improvement. Managing classroom attendance and record grades in a timely manner. Communicating effectively with students and colleagues using email. Using Blackboard as a course supplement. Assisting students with matters related to course of study, class registration, career paths, scholarships, and financial aid. Advising a proportionate number of students within the construction management program. Participating in program-related events, including program meetings and meetings of the construction management industry advisory committee. Participating in continuous professional development via EAP, internships, summer employment, limited consulting, workshops, conferences, seminars and professional associations. Representing the discipline in professional organizations. Performing other responsibilities as described in the full-time faculty handbook. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a construction-related discipline. Minimum of ten years of industry experience in construction management, including the preparation of detailed construction cost estimates, knowledge of construction methods and materials, and ability to read detailed construction drawings and specifications. Experience with software applications used in construction, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Sage Estimating (formerly Timberline), On-Screen Takeoff, and Primavera P6. Ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment. Demonstrated experience teaching using a variety of delivery methods, online resources, and technology applications across the curriculum. Candidates must have a strong knowledge of the Construction and Design industry, particularly as it relates to the Washington Metro area. Candidates must have a clear understanding of Montgomery College’s mission, particularly as related to Construction Management. Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in a construction-related discipline. Proficient using a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices and support of a diverse student population. Experience supporting students to overcome barriers to academic success. Previous experience teaching in a college environment. Familiarity with community college construction management programs. Previous experience using Blackboard Learn. Familiarity with Zoom or Blackboard Collaborate Ultra web meeting platforms. Experience with screen recording software such as Camtasia or Screencast-O-Matic. Experience with additional construction management software applications, such as Bluebeam Revu, Procore, AutoCAD, Revit, CSI Master Format Divisions and BIM.
