Department Summary

The UNT Department of Psychology is one of the largest and most dynamic psychology programs in the region, home to more than 40 faculty members, 100 graduate students, and over 2,500 undergraduate majors. Our faculty lead innovative research programs spanning clinical science, counseling psychology, cognitive and brain sciences, developmental psychology, health psychology, and social and behavioral health. Through mentorship, hands-on research training, and interdisciplinary collaboration, our students develop the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in academia, healthcare, industry, and public service.

The Department of Psychology is housed within the College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences (PAHS). PAHS prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, behavioral health, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public and mental health, exercise physiology, and urban design.

PAHS has nine academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, and is also the home for several centers such as the UNT Center for Sport Psychology and Athlete Mental Health, the UNT Psychology Clinic, the Center for Psychosocial Health Disparities Research, the Kristin Farmer Autism Center, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, UNT ELEVAR (Empower, Learn, Excel, enVision, Advance, Rise), and several professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Overview

The Department of Psychology in the College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences at the University of North Texas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology to join our APA-accredited doctoral program.

We seek an innovative scholar whose research advances the understanding, prevention, assessment, or treatment of mental health conditions across the lifespan. The successful candidate will establish an externally funded research program while playing a key role in educating and mentoring doctoral students preparing for careers in clinical practice, research, and academia.

The successful candidate will complement the department’s existing strengths in health disparities, diagnosis and assessment, forensic psychology, post-traumatic stress disorder, neuropsychology, substance use disorders, and psychotherapy outcome research.

Applicants employing innovative methodologies, including longitudinal research, clinical trials, community-engaged research, digital health technologies, implementation science, psychophysiology or advanced quantitative methods—are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will:

• Develop and sustain an externally funded research program in clinical psychology.
• Teach doctoral- and undergraduate-level courses in clinical psychology and related areas.
• Mentor doctoral students in research, clinical training, and professional development.
• Supervise doctoral research, including master's theses and doctoral dissertations.
• Contribute to clinical training through practicum supervision and other training experiences, consistent with the faculty member's expertise.
• Publish impactful research in leading peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
• Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to address complex mental and behavioral health challenges.
• Contribute to curriculum development, APA accreditation activities, departmental governance, and professional service.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program or a closely related discipline.
• Eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in the State of Texas.
• Evidence of a strong and growing research agenda with potential for sustained external funding.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publications.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and training students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral research or clinical training.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate researchers.
• Experience supervising clinical trainees.
• Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations addressing complex mental health challenges.
