Recreation Coordinator

SUMMARY Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of customer service, data gathering, office work, facility cleaning, and desk and program supervision. In addition, this position will be primarily responsible for planning and directing summer camp and out-of-school activities, meeting customer needs, including answering the phone, greeting walk-ins, touring perspective memberships, providing program and facility information, and assisting with rentals, as well as assisting the management team with certain aspects of operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential and other key responsibilities of the position may include, but are not limited to, the following: Plan, implement, evaluate, and direct the day-to-day operations and long-term planning for a school-age, childcare program, designed to meet the needs of parents and elementary-aged children served. Demonstrates an ability to translate standards into programmatic outcomes in an informal learning environment. Demonstrates an ability to resolve the full range of problems associated with childcare programming. Ability to monitor, understand, interpret, and apply City policies, industry standards, and State laws applicable to school-aged, childcare programs. Ability to recruit, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate instructors, staff, and volunteers assigned to the childcare program. Demonstrates an ability to lead large groups of school-age participants and use their understanding of methods and techniques to effectively enrich or educate a certain age group and/or a group of participants with certain interests or individual needs. Provide excellent customer service through effective and professional communication with external customers about the Link, its memberships, programs, events, amenities, and policy and procedures and be able to follow and enforce them with consistency and tact. Facilitates membership enrollments, program registration and rental reservation with efficiency using the Link’s operational software; accurately manages customer transactions while adhering to all cash handling policies and procedures. Assist with maintaining a clean and safe recreation center facility. While janitorial work is not the specific job duty of any employee, each member of the staff is expected to assist in the cleanliness and safety of the Link and its internal and external amenities. Responsible for completing building walk through each shift to visually ensure the Link is in good order. Assist management staff with room set-up and clean-up, including table and chairs stacking and unstacking; during events and rentals, will provide on-going communication with the renter to ensure expectations are met. Serve customers in a polite and enthusiastic manner and manage any conflict or misunderstanding. Serving customers and citizens includes welcoming individuals, learning members’ names, answering the phone promptly, collecting and handing out equipment, responding to or providing assistance for questions or concerns. Assist management staff with delegated duty to provide higher level service or quality of programs. Maintains a key role in managing front line customer service and program supervision, including assisting the RecreationSupervisors with customer service consistency, completing the booking of rentals, and completing monthly reports. Assists Supervisors with program oversight and communication. Specifically, working with students and parents as well as driving for school pickup, drop-off, and to and from field trips. Maintains integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the city by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved. Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively. Must be able to work variety of hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be: Education and/or Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and experience in person-to-person customer service, cash handling and/or recreational or related experience; in addition, must be willing to work as part of a team; provide a high level of service to our customers. Prefer two years of college education with the field of childcare, recreation or related field and some supervision experience. License or Certificate: Possession of an appropriate, valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record. CPR, AED and First Aid certifications preferred; must have the ability to acquire within six months of employment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the principles and practices of parks and recreation administration and relevant laws, safety standards, codes, policies and procedures. Strong working knowledge of the principles and activities of program creation, planning, and execution for various age groups. Knowledge of marketing and public relations principles and activities. Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Working knowledge in the practices and methods of inventory control and resource management. Working knowledge in the use of computers, Microsoft Office, and other standard office equipment required. Working knowledge in Google Suite, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or other content creation software preferred. Ability to lead, supervise, direct the work of, and train employees and volunteers in a professional manner. Ability to work well under pressure; prioritize effectively; exhibit appropriate decision making; and perform successfully in a dynamic, changing environment with professionalism, flexibility, and adaptability. Ability to utilize strong attention to detail, exhibit effective professional judgement through initiative and creative problem solving, and effective organization skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and treat co-workers, vendors, and patrons with professionalism, courtesy, and respect. Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in an office setting and. May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision to monitor. May be subject to extended periods of standing and sitting during presentations or attending public and special events.
