Job Title: HVAC Mechanic / Mechanical Technician - Critical Data Center Facilities
Job Description
This role focuses on operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical and HVAC systems that support mission-critical data center operations. You will ensure the reliable performance of chillers, cooling equipment, pumps, valves, and related infrastructure in a large-scale critical facility environment. The position requires strong hands-on experience with air conditioning systems, refrigeration cycles, chilled water and boiler systems, and the ability to execute preventive and corrective maintenance programs while using a computerized maintenance management system.
Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC and mechanical systems that support a critical data center facility.
• Inspect, monitor, and maintain chillers, cooling equipment, pumps, valves, piping systems, and associated controls to ensure optimal performance.
• Apply in-depth knowledge of refrigeration cycles and air conditioning systems to diagnose and resolve equipment and system issues.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities on facility mechanical and HVAC equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
• Manage, prioritize, and close work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Conduct quality inspections and equipment checks to confirm systems are operating within defined parameters and performance standards.
• Perform routine rounds, readings, and operational checks to identify abnormalities, trends, and potential equipment failures before they occur.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues involving chilled water systems, pumps, valves, motors, heat exchangers, compressors, and related equipment.
• Monitor and support boiler systems, transformer and power distribution units, and other mechanical components as needed for facility reliability.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and equipment performance in a clear and accurate manner.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to communicate equipment status, maintenance needs, and any risks to critical operations.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC, facilities maintenance, data centers, critical environments, or related mechanical systems.
• Strong understanding of air conditioning systems, including troubleshooting rooftop units up to 50 tons.
• In-depth knowledge of refrigeration cycles and their application in commercial and data center environments.
• Experience working with chillers and chilled water systems, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with boiler systems and associated mechanical components.
• Proficiency with pumps and pump operations, including installation, inspection, and performance monitoring.
• Strong understanding of valves and valve controls within mechanical and HVAC systems.
• Experience managing and completing work orders in a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) environment.
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC monitoring tools.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in a critical facility environment where system reliability is essential.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with transformer and power distribution units in a data center or critical facility setting.
• Experience working with heat exchangers, compressors, and related mechanical equipment.
• Strong communication skills to effectively relay equipment status, maintenance needs, and technical information to team members and stakeholders.
• Strong documentation skills for accurately recording maintenance work, inspections, and equipment performance.
• Ability to perform detailed inspections, rounds, and readings to identify potential issues early.
• Comfort working within structured preventive maintenance programs and following established procedures.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple work orders in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Work Environment
This role is based in a large-scale data center and critical facility environment, working directly with HVAC and mechanical infrastructure such as chillers, cooling equipment, pumps, valves, piping systems, boiler systems, heat exchangers, compressors, transformers, and power distribution units. You will regularly use Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC monitoring tools, and a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to oversee and maintain equipment performance. The schedule follows a rotating shift pattern of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., structured as 4 days on / 4 days off and 3 days on / 3 days off, providing extended blocks of time off while maintaining consistent coverage for mission-critical operations. The environment emphasizes safety, reliability, and adherence to established procedures, with a focus on maintaining continuous uptime for data center systems.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Summerville, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
