Operations & Delivery Engineering Lead

Our client is a rapidly growing developer and operator of large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure supporting next-generation digital technologies. They are delivering some of the world's largest and most advanced critical facilities and are seeking an experienced engineering leader to oversee the full lifecycle of these assets. This is a senior leadership opportunity responsible for engineering ownership from construction through commissioning and into live operations. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting mechanical, electrical, controls, and fire/life safety systems across a growing portfolio of hyperscale facilities. This role bridges delivery and operations, ensuring assets transition seamlessly into service while maintaining the highest standards of reliability, safety, and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team. Manage recruitment, performance, succession planning, and technical development. Allocate engineering resources across construction support, commissioning, operational engineering, and technical escalations. Establish engineering standards and promote a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement. Project Delivery Provide engineering leadership throughout construction and commissioning. Support design reviews, constructability assessments, FAT/SAT testing, and Levels 1–5 commissioning. Ensure operational readiness through successful turnover, documentation, system integration, and training. Collaborate closely with design, construction, commissioning, and operations teams. Lifecycle Engineering Own engineering support for live facilities, including: Capacity expansions Equipment replacements Controls modifications Reliability improvements Develop long-term engineering and asset reliability strategies. Evaluate infrastructure risks and identify opportunities for resilience improvements. Change Management Chair the site's Engineering Change Control Board. Review and approve technical modifications affecting critical infrastructure. Ensure all engineering changes are fully risk assessed, documented, validated, and incorporated into operational documentation. Drive continuous improvement through engineering governance and change management metrics. Operational Engineering Act as the senior engineering escalation point for complex technical issues. Lead root cause investigations and corrective action programmes. Review and approve maintenance procedures, operating procedures, and emergency response documentation. Analyse system performance data to improve reliability and operational efficiency. Safety & Compliance Ensure engineering activities comply with industry regulations and safety standards. Support electrical safety programmes, lockout/tagout procedures, and audit readiness. Maintain accurate engineering documentation, drawings, and asset records. Required Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience). 8–10+ years' experience within mission-critical facilities, data centres, or critical infrastructure. Previous experience leading engineering teams. Strong understanding of: Electrical distribution systems Mechanical cooling systems Building Management Systems (BMS) Critical facility operations Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and live operational environments. Knowledge of formal engineering change management processes. Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and industry best practices. Willingness to travel approximately 50%. Preferred Experience Hyperscale or Tier III/IV data centre experience. Professional Engineering (PE) qualification or equivalent. Uptime Institute certifications or similar industry credentials.
