Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer

Salary: $175,000 - 200,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field, along with 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience; an advanced degree may substitute for equivalent experience.
• We need demonstrated experience developing complex mechanical systems at scale.
• We need demonstrated experience performing preliminary structural analysis of space systems.
• We need demonstrated experience in one or more of these areas: space system development, systems engineering, structure and thermal design and analysis, mechanical and fluid systems, or manufacturing.
• We need experience creating technical material for proposals and external customer presentations.
• We need experience writing and breaking down mission-level and system-level requirements.
• We need a strong understanding of launch, space, and lunar environments.
• Preferred: understanding of end-to-end mission solutions.
• Preferred: experience with mission architecture development.
• Preferred: experience writing and reviewing software scripts for automation and analysis.
• Preferred: knowledge of NASA and industry engineering standards.
• Preferred: experience working in an agile environment using tools such as Confluence and Jira.
• Preferred: ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Applicants must be eligible to obtain any required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.

• We develop and evaluate new concepts and designs for lunar landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft.
• We support mission opportunity development and internal programs by creating technical content.
• We perform and review system-level analysis and first-order sizing of space systems.
• We build and manage spacecraft-level configurations in CAD, including preliminary structural analysis, packaging, and sizing from launch through surface operations.
• We design and develop spacecraft structures for lunar landers, orbiters, and rovers.
• We conduct preliminary mechanical design and analysis of spacecraft structures and mechanisms, including deployment and offloading fixtures, tip-over and stability assessments, and terramechanics evaluations.
• We design and assess payload and subsystem accommodations within complex spacecraft.
• We contribute to schedules, staffing plans, and budget estimates.
• We communicate with other engineering disciplines, partners, customers, and vendors to address technical risks and challenges.
• We occasionally take part in site visits and technical interchange meetings with customer and partner organizations.
• We translate broad customer needs into actionable product goals and system architectures for proposals, customer presentations, and stakeholder communication.
• We lead and participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure engineering solutions align with mission needs, business needs, and our technology roadmap.
• We develop and run trade studies to support technical, business, and programmatic decisions.
• We help define the system-level technical vision for new products, connecting customer needs with practical, high-performing solutions across hardware and software domains.
