Technical Support Lead For Applications

We're hiring a hands-on Technical Support Lead for Applications — focused on leading technical support for a global Data Analytics platform running on Azure. This is a deep-technical, escalation-focused role (not an ops manager). You will personally resolve the toughest incidents, diagnose data- and performance-related problems in large-scale pipelines and datasets, mentor support analysts, and work closely with engineering/product teams to deliver root-cause remediation and durable fixes.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the escalation technical lead for high-impact incidents (large datasets, heavy transformations, performance bottlenecks, cross-platform configuration faults).
• Lead complex troubleshooting across Databricks, SQL Server / DWH, and Azure data services.
• Perform hands-on debugging of PySpark jobs, T-SQL queries/stored procedures, ETL pipelines, and data flows end-to-end.
• Analyze performance and scalability issues in pipelines and datasets (including very large row counts) and implement fixes or mitigation strategies.
• Guide and coach support engineers on diagnostics, remediation steps, and knowledge transfer.
• Partner with product and engineering teams to drive permanent fixes, deployment changes, and improvements to operational runbooks.
• Document findings, produce RCA reports, and recommend platform/configuration best practices.

Required qualifications

• 8+ years in application support, technical lead, or data-platform troubleshooting roles with hands-on ownership of complex production incident resolution.
• Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Engineering and Python.
• Proven experience with Databricks and PySpark, including workspace/notebook navigation, read/write patterns, and transformation logic.
• Deep T-SQL / data warehouse expertise: database design, stored procedures, functions, performance tuning using execution plans and indexing, and advanced query techniques (CTEs, temp tables, correlated subqueries).
• Experience troubleshooting and optimizing workflows that operate on very large datasets (100M+ rows) and reasoning about data complexity and performance trade-offs.
• Solid understanding of RDBMS concepts; familiarity with MSBI stack is a plus.
• Hands-on ETL and reporting troubleshooting across the entire data flow.
• Excellent communication skills; able to translate technical findings to engineers, support teams, and business stakeholders.

Preferred skills

• Advanced SQL diagnostics and performance tuning (SPs, functions, execution-plan-driven optimization, index strategy, query refactoring).
• Azure Data Factory: building and troubleshooting orchestration patterns; ability to map SSIS concepts to ADF.
• ADLS file-format expertise (Parquet/Delta vs CSV/Excel): cost, performance, and operational tradeoffs.
• Familiarity with Power BI workspace concepts and tools like Alteryx.
• Basic accounting/financial dataset literacy.
• Advanced Excel (pivots, formulas, lookups, VBA) — a plus.
• ERP integration experience (SAP/Oracle): architecture understanding, extraction support, and basic ABAP/UNIX familiarity helpful.
