Water/Wastewater Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced Water/Wastewater Superintendent to oversee the safe, efficient and compliant operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities, collection systems and related infrastructure. This role will provide operational leadership across treatment, maintenance and field activities, ensuring reliable service delivery, regulatory compliance and the protection of public health and the environment. The successful candidate will lead daily operations, coordinate staffing and resources, and promote a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.


Key responsibilities will include supervising operators, technicians and contractors; planning and assigning daily work; monitoring plant performance and process controls; reviewing laboratory results and operational data; and ensuring all activities comply with applicable permits, legislation, environmental standards and internal procedures. You will support preventive and corrective maintenance programs, coordinate shutdowns and emergency responses, investigate operational issues, and recommend improvements to equipment, processes and system performance. The role will also maintain accurate records, prepare operational and compliance reports, assist with budgeting and procurement, and liaise with regulators, contractors, consultants and members of the public as required. Coaching, performance management and the development of operating procedures will be important elements of the position.


Candidates should have substantial experience in water or wastewater treatment operations, with proven supervisory or management experience in a municipal, industrial or utility environment. A relevant technical qualification, operator certification or equivalent practical experience is required, along with sound knowledge of treatment processes, environmental regulations, health and safety requirements, asset management and computerized maintenance or operational systems. Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills are essential. The position may require participation in an on-call or emergency response rotation, work at multiple sites and occasional exposure to outdoor, hazardous or physically demanding conditions. A valid driving licence and the ability to pass required background, medical or competency checks may also be necessary.
